William Baragwanath was educated at the Ballarat School of Mines, obtaining a Geology Certificate in 1911. After further study he went on the become Secretary for Mines, and Chief Mining Surveyor. Baragwanath was a Councillor of the Ballarat School of Mine from 1916 to 1950.Pink covered foolscap book of 257 pages and 32 maps and plans by William Baragwanath. The photograph shows Bairnsdale carnival procession which the Orbost Band led as there was no Bairnsdale group. The first Orbost Brass Band was formed in 1889. Around 1908 the town band split and the Orbost Workers' Band was formed. Eventually the two bands merged in 1913 to reform as the Orbost Municipal Band under conductorship of Charles Spink. The band continued for many years but was later disbanded and again reformed. This was to happen a number of times, the last time being in 1961 and continuing through to the late 1970's. Taken in the late 1800s, depicted is the Cribbes merry go round team lead by Alexander Cribbes, traveling along a dirt road. The merry go round team is spread out between 3 horse drawn wagons that each contain parts of the Cribbes merry go round.
