William enlisted as No. 4433 in the AIF on 7.7.1915 aged 24 years 5 months in the 14th Reinforcements, 6th Battalion. He embarked for Egypt on 28.1.1916 then for France on 29.3.1916. Appointed Acting Corporal on 3.8.1916. In hospital on 4.11.1916 with Trench feet, re-joined unit on 12.3.1917. Appointed Corporal 19.7.1917. Wounded in action 5.10.1917, GSW to the head. Re-joined unit 21.11.1917. Appointed Lance Sergeant 10.8.1918 then Sergeant soon after, Returned to Australia 1.9.1919 and discharged from the Army on 25.10.1919. During WW2 William enlists in the CMF as No. v362254 on 14.4.1942 and discharged on 8.6.1944 with the Rank of Sergeant. Sepia toned photograph of a soldier in Australian Army uniform. She was organist at St Paul's Church of England for many years. Elizabeth Bennett married William Todd (the younger, son of William Todd Snr and his wife Sarah, née Thompson) on New Year's Day in 1882, and they celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1932. Elizabeth and William Todd had at least nine children.Black and white copy of original photograph. Photograph is a head and shoulders portrait of a woman whose dark hair has a central parting and is drawn back from her face. She is not wearing a cap or hat. Both had migrated from England. W. G. Bennett established a butcher's shop in Linton Township, and later purchased farming land and other town allotments. William and Susan Bennett had twelve children, eight of whom survived to adulthood. W. G. Bennett was a Trustee of the Linton Town Common, was elected to the Grenville Shire Council in 1871,and founded the Linton Rifle Club. After W. G. Bennett's death in 1903, the butcher's shop was run by the Todd family. The recipient is William George Bennett of the Alice Berry Nursing Home, Kings Rd, Emerald.VEMU1664.1 Civilian Service Medal 1939 - 1945 (minature) with attached ribbon. The ribbon consists of three vertical bands of equal width of green, ochre and green, separated by two narrow white stripes. After ...William Todd is understood to have been born about 1855 at Linton's Diggings to parents William (Snr) and Sarah, née Thompson. William Todd married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bennett in 1882. After the death of his father-in-law William Garnsworthy Bennett in 1903, members of the Todd family took over the butcher's shop on the corner of Sussex and Clyde Streets in Linton, but it is not known if William Todd had a direct interest in the shop, as his occupation in electoral rolls form 1903 onwards is stated as "carpenter". He was Secretary of the Linton Horticultural Society for many years, bandmaster of the Linton Brass Band, and was an active member of the Linton Church of England congregation. William and Elizabeth Todd celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1932. They had nine children. Enlarged black and white copy of original photograph, which shows the head and shoulders of a man with a moustache and beard, who is wearing a formal suit.
