Made pre WW2, could have been used in WW2 and KoreaWooden Grips are attached to a single edge blade by four screws. Bayonet locking section has a clearing hole. The right hand grip is stamped with the number "2" indicating it is from the second Military District (N.S.W.) The blade curves up to a point. The blade is made of steel and has a full length fuller. It is complete with a leather and steel scabbard marked Mangovite 41. It is a Pattern 1907 Bayonet. The ricasso R.H.S. is marked with 24, broad arrow, and an X, which indicates sold out of service. World War 2 Soldiers’ Memorial 1999. "In remembrance WW2 and Korean War, Malaysia, Borneo, Vietnam". The unveiling ceremony of the memorial was held on Sunday Nov 4th, 1956, by Lieutenant Edmond Herring. KCMG. DSO. MC. EO. The ceremony was dedicated "To the men of Stawell and District who paid the supreme sacrifice in World War 2 and Korean War. Two black & white photos taken in 1999 of World War 2 memorial. And no doubt he or someone else would have because it needed "starting" and it just did not seem right that almost every other nation was represented on ANZAC Day and there were no South Africans marching, particularly when South Africans fought alongside Australians in two World Wars and in Korea. It is important to note that SAMVOA has had predecessors who were South Africans who had marched in Melbourne and probably elsewhere prior to 1996, but they were an older group of WW1 and WW2 veterans who by 1996 were too old to even travel by vehicle and they had fallen away. Around 1998, I contacted and spoke to their leader Major (retd.)
