This postcard is one in an album of mainly late 19th and early 20th century decorative and photographic postcards. This postcard is one of only three postcards in the album dating from the 1940s. It recalls Prince Henry Hospital in St Kilda Rd, Melbourne. Prince Henry's history dated from the 19th century. It was rebuilt on the St Kilda Rd. site and opened c1940. It ceased operations on that site c1991. The Macclesfield State School opened in 1904. This is a photograph is of a group event at the school c1920s. This and other photographs and postcards came from the estate of David Moyle (1938-2015) who was a police officer in Emerald during late 1960s-early 1970s, and subsequently at Belgrave in the early 1980s. This book was borrowed from the Emerald Mechanic's Institute in 1961 but never returned. The first Emerald Mechanic's Institute (also known as the Emerald Hall) was built in 1905 but was burnt down in 1955. A new Emerald Hall was opened on the site on 16 November 1957 and remained in operation until its demolition in 2018 to make way for the building of the Emerald Hub.This book recalls the history of the library service at the Emerald Mechanic's Institute. Kith Kiln was the site of a short lived charcoal kiln designed to provide an alternative to petrol during World War 11 when there was a fuel shortage. Local history has been told by Genseric (Bill) Parker and the reflections collected by Friends of Kirth Kiln (under the auspices of Parks Victoria).The booklet is significant because it tells the story of the development of the Kirth Kiln Park in Gembrook, from the Friends perspective.The park is not only historical but is also of great environmental significance and it forms part of community life in the district.
