On Saturday, 26 Oct 2019, a small band of nine Ashwood College Year 12 students from (1988-1994) gathered at the Notting Hill Hotel for a social get-together to celebrate 25 years after their graduation. To mark this special occasion, a Time Capsule which they had sealed and laid down on the night of their graduation dinner in 1994 (To be opened in 25 years), was brought from the school by an earlier Alumni student, Volunteer School Archivist, Christopher Boddy (1961-1966) and his wife, Kathy. There was much excitement at what the capsule may hold, and a group photo was taken to mark the occasion. After some difficulty in removing the cap, the Time Capsule was duly opened with a hammer and drift to reveal its contents. There were many school artifacts of newsletters, timetables, magazines and more to remind them of their years at the school together with reminders of significant world events, information about Australian, Victoria and the local area. The first Year 12 Time Capsule Committee of three was represented by Andrew Breeden. Used at Tarndwarncoort by Wendy Dennis and family. Small blue Lambs coat made in Australia, Yellow and white coats made in Australia by ?Goblin? Company in Australia about 35 years ago with rheem material polypropylene. Both Green coats are large sizes (Korean Made) Current Coats used now by Tarndwarncoort are made in China from Nylon material. These coats were decorated by year 12 students at Colac High School for Fashions on the field (no sign of this is visible on the coats. The coats come along with several articles written by Wendy Dennis about her methods of producing coloured wool and growing sheep. A series of photographs are also provided which add to the provenance and significance of the items. Used by the Dennis Family at Tarndwarncoort. Prominent woll growing pastoralist and settler family at the historic Tarndwarncoort homestead. These types of coats are used to protect fine grade and high quality wool while still on the sheep's back. These coats were made in Australia, and while these types of coats are still used, they are now made in China and Korea. 5 small sized lamb coats. shaped to fit a sheep with leg straps or holes in the rear, and joins, shashes and ties at the front. Since 1988 Legacy has held a public speaking contest called the Junior Plain English Speaking Award. Schools were eligible to send along representatives to compete. The following was taken from a programme in 1996: "The Award aim is to promote enhanced oral communication skills for 12-14 year old students and to help young people appreciate the ideals of Legacy - voluntary service, caring and comradeship - and the need for remembrance. It began in 1988 in the Melbourne area with the support of the Ministry of Education and The Plain English Foundation. Entries have grown from 24 in the 1988 competition to over 300 in schools across the State, plus greater numbers participating in the process of selecting four contestants from each school. In 1995, a successful Interstate Championship was held with contestants from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
