This flyer in Turkish was printed by the Turkish Islamic Society to advertise an event celebrating the 51st anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish republic. The program for the evening included patriotic songs, poems and traditional music and dance as well as a 3 act play entitled 'Yetis Kemal'. This type of event was regularly held by the Turkish Islamic Society in the early years of the settlement of the Turkish community in Melbourne. This thesis examines and analyses the linguistic data in the papers of the Reverend William Thomas (1793-1867) in the Mitchell Library, Sydney (Thomas MS 214).
