The Brodie family were early European settlers who acquired land at Mickleham and settled on their Harpsdale property. The outdoor toilet was a common feature in country estates and farms before the introduction of septic tank systems to non-sewered areas. The photograph was taken on a sports day which took place at the Mickleham Sports Ground. This is a photograph of one of the many stone ruins which can be seen in the Sunbury area and surrounding districts. These ruins are found in varying degrees of structural damage caused by erosion, vegetation growth and vandalism. The children were at a district sport's day which took place at the MIckleham sports ground. Bulla School competed with other local small rural schools which included MIckleham, Yuroke, KalKallo, Greenvale and Craigieburn. The photograph of the 30 pupils with their teacher was taken in 1968 at the Bulla S.S. No. 46. after they came first in the Greenvale and District School Sports Association. Other schools competing were Greenvale, Mickleham, Craigieburn, Broadmeadows, Yuroke and Tullamarine. The building is the stables at 'Harpsdale', at Mickleham. The land was used for grazing by European settlers from as early as 1836. The Brodie family purchased the property along with others in the area in 1864 and remained there until 1906. The homestead was built on the property in 1875 and the stables were built in 1883.
