Milagros is inspired by the Mexican tradition of pinning ‘ex-votos’ or ‘milagros’ onto the robes of Patron Saints when requesting a miracle. Ex-votos or milagros are votive offerings of small metal shapes which represent a visual form of people’s prayers. The central question in this piece is:If the creatures of the river could, which ones would be asking their Patron Saints for a miracle or two? The Shakyamuni Buddha statue holds profound significance in Buddhism, representing the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, who lived around 2,500 years ago. The statue portrays Shakyamuni Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, who attained enlightenment and shared his teachings to help others achieve the same. For practitioners, the Shakyamuni Buddha statue serves as a focal point during meditation, promoting mindfulness, peace, and a deeper connection to the Buddha's teachings. The Buddha is depicted seating in meditation on a lotus throne. His legs are crossed in the lotus position. His right hand is holding an alms bowl, signifying care and compassion for all beings. The fountain was commissioned by Elizabeth Bleazby, daughter of Sir Thomas and Mrs Bent, and unveiled 27 October 1913 by Mrs Wilson, Mayoress of Brighton.The fountain is of historical interest and aesthetic significance. Inspired by the opening lines of Percy Bysshe Shelley’s 1820 poem of the same title, The Cloud has grace of line that epitomises the model of classically informed beauty. Richardson’s figure successfully follows the serpentine line of Art Nouveau sculpture while also echoing the influence of British New Sculpture with its focused attention to bodily detail and surface articulation. The Oopsee Daisee series of work is basically a series of self portraits. They began out of a necessity to recover from a nasty fall. The first sculpture of the series was like art therapy, a means to help overcome the bad memories, and anxieties. And it helped. With my deafness, I have many times when I feel wobbly and unbalanced, which have resulted in falls. It is filled with Tawny Port and is part of a wider set of bar pieces. The three pieces held at Melbourne Legacy are tributes to the three armed forces and are called 'Digger', 'RAAFie' and 'Jack Tar'. They were once in the comradeship room and now stored in the archive. Saved from the ship Speke which ran aground on the coast of Phillip Island on the 22nd of February 1906. The figure head of the Speke was in the shape of woman, wearing a flowing white dress with blue cuffs and collar and carrying a large bunch of daffodils. It was originally nine feet four inches long. This sculpture went missing after the event and decades later the head only was re-discovered in Mr Thompson’s garage. It was then restored by Headmaster Kevin and the senior children of Cowes State school in 1940.The Speke was an all steel ship built in Wales in 1891. She was delivering wheat to Geelong and confused a bushfire in Cowes for navigation lights. Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Jonathan’s artistic journey spans continents and mediums. Specializing in sculpting with Stoneware and Polymer clay, as well as drawing and illustration, his work brings a fresh, bold energy to the world of contemporary art. Jonathan’s creative roots were planted at the prestigious Instituto de Diseño Newmann-Ince in Caracas, where he began studying Art & Design. In my work I normally use forms that occur in nature (nests, plants, trees etc.). Lately having used steel wire that is going to rust I have been able to become more ambitious with the scale of my work but also to create a contrast between the use of steel and its fragile, organic look. The shapes should evoke the viewers curiosity, invite him/her to explore the different aspects of the work close up. Part of the challenge with "the guardian" was to create an artwork that is going to belong to a very new environment and at the same time looks as though is has been there for a long time (which is hopefully going to happen after the landscape is going to settle down a bit). I felt that I wanted to create a somewhat organic, natural space in an urban environment - not only a visual but also a spiritual experience. (March 2004). public art, female artist
