Bendigo Weekly from Friday, September 8, 2000. Article by James Lerk ''Discover Bendigo, Bendigo Arcade's fiery farewell''. This well known Bendigo landmark was lost through attrition and fire. At 10.30 pm on October 3, 1974, smoke was seen coming from the arcade building. Miss O'Shannessy, the owner of the baby wear shop had switched on a heater that accidentally ignited some of the shop's contents. Demonstrates how advertising was done within W class tramcars - boxes of the driver's door and yields information about the Hardie Ace Sport shoes. Has an association with Ken Rosewall, tennis champion of the era.Poster advertising Hardie Ace sports shoes. Thought to date from the late 1960's possibly when the trams were withdrawn. "The International Choice, Hardie Ace Sports shoes, Chosen by Ken Rosewall, World Professional Tennis Champion." Has a drawing of Ken? in the poster. Were located in the end advertising panels over the doors of W3 661 and used a base for historical photographs of 661 in Melbourne (See Reg Item 4692 and 4693) until replaced during 2009, when collected. Sheet of glass, cut to a shape, with the Ballaarat Tramway Co. By-laws - original copy, adhered to the one surface of the glass. See also item 783 or details of the By-Laws. proclaimed by the City of Ballaarat April 6?1889 and gazetted April 5 1889. Has 25 different by-laws. See item No. 1 for details of horse tram. Sheet of glass with the by-laws was found in one corner of the horse tram No. 1 when recovered. Sheet of glass was cracked in two locations and the paper of the by-laws has adhered to the glass. There is also a section of glass missing in the top right hand corner of the glass. When salvaged, placed onto a sheet of cardboard and lengths of sticky tape run across the glass and the cracks in the glass to keep it on the cardboard. Since removed from the cardboard and placed on sheets of acid - free board. Handle with care. Not to been used in an exhibition until full conservation treatment carried out.trams, tramways, law and order, by laws, horse trams -

One item about these unidentified drawings 1/ Jenny Ling wrote ‘Dunera Boys Hunt’ article in Caulfield Port Phillip Leader of 08/09/2011. Melbourne Tour guide Shelley Cohney (of Caulfield North) is trying to track down the subjects of a series of 28 pencil portraits of ‘Dunera Boys’ and asks for assistance.
