A newsletter published by Legacy in this format for many years from 1942. At four years of age Dolly Stainer was admitted to Kew Cottages, an institution for the intellectually disabled situated in suburban Melbourne. The Cottages were Dolly's home for the next seventy-five years. Dolly was unable to read or write but she like to talk. In her old age she co-operated in the making of a series of tape recordings about her life. Kew Cottages: The World of Dolly Stainer is based on these recordings and places them in the context of the wider Cottages' history.This is a rare record of a resident of Kew Cottages, recorded in 1987, captured in an oral history interview.Oral History record. The Ballarat Teachers' College was established after the Victorian State Government and the State Education Department decided to establish two provincial teachers' colleges, at Ballarat and Bendigo. On 04 May 1926 W.H. Ellwood (Principal), Miss A. Bouchier, and Mr A.B. Jones, welcomed the first enrolment of 61 students to undertake the one year course. In 1927 the College moved to the former Ballarat East Town Hall in Barkly Street, which was remodelled for their use. It closed in December 1931 due to the Great Depression. In 1946 Ballarat Teachers' College reopened and relocated to the Dana Street State School. The building used by the Teachers' College was the original bluestone building facing Doveton Street South. It was originally planned to open as a women's college, for whom the residence at 130 Victoria Street was purchased, but the decision was made to admit resident men from Ballarat. Mr T.W. Turner was appointed as Principal in 1951 and directed the introduction of a two year course for the Trained Primary Teachers' Certificate. The former one year course was terminated at the end of 1951. In 1958 the College was relocated to a custom built facility at Gillies Street, in close proximity to the Ballarat Botanical Gardens. Numbers increased with the introduction of the Trained Infant Teachers' Certificate course under the guidance of Mary Egan. With the introduction of a three year Diploma Course in 1968 accommodation became cramped. The introduction of the Diploma of Teaching (Primary) led to the Trained Infant Teachers' Certificate being discontinued in 1969, and the end of the Trained Primary Teachers' Certificate in 1969. Secondary Art and Craft students began studies at Ballarat Teachers' College in 1969 under Mr Ted Doney. In 1971 Mr D. Watson was appointed Principal. The State College of Victoria was proclaimed by Order in Council on 24 July 1973, and Ballarat Teachers' College became a constituent college of the State College of Victoria, and was known as State College of Victoria, Ballarat. By 1975 the College moved to Mount Helen as part of the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. Pre service teachers currently undertake their studies on the Mount Helen Campus of Federation University. Two blocks of tickets each - light red ink on off white 60 gsm paper, denomination 3d (printed in blue), headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Provincial Tramways. Originally a block of 50 tickets been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a small cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. The ticket number is in black ink while the "E" prefix is in red, the ticket number is in black. Gertrude Perry was born in California Gully in 1917. Her singing skills were recognized at an early age. She later sang with local choirs and sang on radio. She was involved with the Bendigo Operatic Society for many years. Gertrude began her working life in sales. After studying book keeping she worked at the Bendigo Ordnance Factory during WW2 and then worked for local solicitors and accountants. Record - vinyl based with paper card jacket and plastic record cover - 331/3 rpm microgroove vinyl record, or "LP", titled "Destination City". Jacket has a stylised view of the intersection of Flinders and Swanston Streets and Flinders St railway station with W2 233 in the top right hand corner. On the rear are extensive details of each of the 11 recording tracks featuring various trams around Melbourne. The vinyl disk itself has a blue label with the title, speed and side number. Produced and recorded by Ormond Slater and Ewen Cameron in 1969 with the assistance of the Australasian Post and the TMSV. Two copies held - 2nd copy added 18-9-15 - was on display in Main room until April 2015 - from Norm Cross.
