Programme, Junior Legacy Club Annual Demonstration 1951, October 1951
A program of a Legacy Demonstration at the Melbourne Town Hall. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and eurythmics, the Demonstration was an annual event to showcase their skills. Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to 1979, usually held at Melbourne Town Hall or Olympic Pool Stadium. The beautiful costumes were made by members of the Junior Legacy Mothers' Club and the Melbourne Legacy Wives' Association. Herald (Melbourne), Friday 19 October 1951, page 5 says: "Children in Legacy show Two hundred children will take part in a Legacy Club demonstration at the Melbourne Town Hall tonight and tomorrow night. They will show the work done in physical training and speech therapy classes. Boys will give gymnastic displays including wrestling and tumbling. Girls will feature costume dances and tableaux. They made the dresses themselves. Speakers will tell of the more serious side of Legacy's work, and of the benefits available to children."A record of a Junior Legatee Demonstration in 1951.Cardboard program includes running order, acts being presented and names of instructors. Programme - The Heiress, Collett & Bain
This programme is for the 1956 Warrnambool production of ‘The Heiress’. It was produced by Joyce Hayward, assisted by her husband Cyril. Joyce Hayward produced more than 80 plays and musicals in Warrnambool over a 30 year period and was a life member of the Warrnambool Theatre Company (as the Warrnambool Musical and Dramatic Society was re-named). Cyril Hayward acted in more than 40 plays in Warrnambool and stage-managed more than 50. Together they dominated the cultural scene in Warrnambool from 1955 to 1985 and were chiefly responsible for the establishment of the Warrnambool Performing Arts Centre (now the Lighthouse Theatre). Both received British Empire Medals. This program is of interest as an early example of the plays produced in Warrnambool by Joyce Hayward assisted by her husband Cyril. The Haywards had a major influence on the cultural life of Warrnambool for 30 years in the second half of the 20th century. The advertisements in this programme are also historically important. This is a soft cover programme of eight pages. It has an orange cover with black printing. The programme has many advertisements, information on the cast and the play produced. The booklet has been stapled but the staples have been removed.Front Cover: Warrnambool Musical & Dramatic Society presents The Heiress, a Play by Ruth and Augustus Goetz, Warrnambool Town Hall, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 15th, 16th, 17th Nov. 1956, Programme 1/-warrnambool musical & dramatic society, cyril & joyce hayward, warrnambool -

Melbourne Legacy
Poster, Lest YOU forget. Legacy cares for Australia's biggest family. Buy a badge on 7th September, 1990
This is an example of Melbourne Legacy promotional material. It is a poster from 1990 and it was in a folder with marketing material from the 1990s. The slogan "Lest YOU forget" was used with an image of the statue of Simpson and his donkey rather than a personality. See other examples of how this image was used, Item 01520 when it was used in newspaper advertisements and on the side of a milk carton, also 01251. The main time of year for fundraising is September when Legacy holds 'Badge Week'. Often there is a celebrity who gives his or her time as 'Personality of the Year'. Examples are Sir Weary Dunlop (1992), Clive James (1993), the Scott family (1994), The Emmanuel brothers (1995), Daryl Somers (1996 and 1997), and Patsy Adam Smith (1994?). Was in a folder with marketing material from the 1990s to 2009, see items 01240 to 01258. The collection shows the types of marketing materials that were produced and the celebrities that were helping Legacy. An example of promotional material from the 1990s. Marketing material and photos were compiled and released to newspapers, also printed as brochures and sometimes as stickers and collection tin wrappers.Colour A4 promotional leaflet for Legacy Week, featuring the statue of Simpson and his donkey.legacy promotion, badge appeal, legacy week, marketing -
