The bookplate/premium plate identifies this book as being from the Young Men's General Debating Society South Street Ballarat 1897. This society was formed six years earlier and evolved into The Grand National Eisteddfod of Australasia or the Royal South Street Society in 1962. This book of sermons was written by Ballarat personality the Rev William Henderson who was responsible for the building of Ballarat's St Andrew's Kirk and the establishment of Ballarat College. It is one of many books of sermons published by Henderson and is the most significant of those productions, most of which are booklets. The bookplate identifies this book as belonging to one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious Eisteddfods The Royal South Street Competitions founded in 1891, the best known feature of which is the Sun Aria operatic competition. The book itself is a totally local product printed, published and bound in Ballarat in 1882, the publisher & binder being McHutchison & Campbell of Lydiard St, Ballarat.theology, sermons -

Demonstrates an aspect of the SEC method of advising fares and sections to the travelling public. Also gave a small map that would have been useful to crews to explain to visitors where things were. Used in tramcars when trimmed. This poster made for the 1966 or second last fare increase. Also gives charges for Scholar's Monthly tickets, Luggage, Parcels, Newspapers and Chartered trams. Originally dated August 1965, amended August 1966. Note only shows decimal currency. Robin Boyd developed a close friendship with the founder of the Bauhaus in Weimar Germany, Walter Gropius, who had moved to the USA in the 1930s. Through this connection, Boyd was invited to be the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Bemis Professor at the School in the North American academic year 1956-7. Robin and Patricia Boyd, with their youngest daughter Suzy, were based in Cambridge, Massachusetts for the year. Boyd gave some lectures at MIT and he was also invited to give lectures at many other universities, allowing him to travel widely within the USA, especially on the East Coast. This gave him the opportunity to meet architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, Eero Saarinen, Paul Rudolph and many others, and visit the offices of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, and places like Taliesin and the General Motors Technical Center Detroit. A cultural grant was given to Margaret BRIDE to implement this study, which she did with the help of her husband Graham and several residents of the study area including PMH&PS members Emily LOCK, David THOMPSON, Jack BOLT and Kerrie MATHEE.History of a Street Precinct, documenting 80 years plus of the history of the area bounded by Williamstown Road and Evans, Bridge and Farrell Streets, since 1880. One of two products of a 2005 project (which subsequently won the 2007 Victorian Local History Award for research).
