ARTIST WALTER WITHEBS, whose pictures are now on exhibition at his Melbourne studio on Wednesdays and Saturdays, is an Englishman by birth, but an ardent Australian by adoption. His landscapes are "racy of the soil,” and amongst the most successful work of the kind done by Victorian artists. Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from 2000. Undertakers: Peter Fizelle and Michael Mulqueen formed a partnership in 1898 which continued until Fizelle's death in 1901. It was then that Michael Mulqueen became the sole proprietor of the parlour with his brother John in charge of stables - an integral part of the business as many of the cabs were hired from the ranks next to the Shamrock Hotel. The business continued in this format until 1926 when the brothers purchased a motorised hearse, built in Melbourne by Australian Motor Industries. Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from 2000. Fortuna villa: originally a resplendent villa of two storeys comprising six rooms in the ground floor and five on the second. It was situated beside the New Chum line of reef and was of 350 square metres. In 1887 Fortuna was enlarged with the addition of a mansard between the billiard and music rooms. The entrance hall was demolished and replaced with the hall which stands today. Work continued until 1904 by which time Fortuna was three storeys high. The building was befitting any prince, and soon became an entertainment centre for notable visitors to Bendigo. Set of seven Agfa colour slide, blue and white plastic mount, photo by Keith Caldwell of a track deviation during the construction of the Alexandria Avenue underpass at the north end of St Kilda Road. Shows the deviation, temporary track ("on the fly), overhead works and after the bridge has been completed, the permanent track brought into use.. All have the Arts Centre in the background. Slides 1 to 4 - 17/6/1971, 5 to 7 - 20/6/1971, after the change over from the temporary track to the permanent track. .1 - W6 919 outbound, East Malvern Route 3 - has a large gantry beam in the background and an advertisement for briquettes and Norton Bear tape. Also running wrong line. In the background is a rail mounted overhead trolley tower and Bedford truck MZR129. .7 - SW6 845 in bound route 8 followed by SW6 854, route 72. Both trams are running on the wrong line.
