Pamphlet - Methodist Order of Knights, Knights in the Mission : Our strategy for advance
The Methodist Order of Knights was the official youth organisation of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It originated in Hurstville, NSW, on the 4th October 1914 by the then Mr and later Rev Alex Bray. Alex Bray was a Sunday School teacher and spoke to his class of the Knights of the Round Table. In 1917 the Order of Knights was officially recognised by the Sunday School Dept of the NSW Methodist Conference. Courts spread thoroughout Australia. In 1927 the High Court of NSW called for designs for a badge and in 1929 the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia recognised the Order as an approved Organisation. In 1938 the Senior Section was organised into Degrees of Sincerity, Service and Sacrifice; the Junior Section into Pages' Degree with advancement to Esquire. In 1954 the Junior Section was reorganised into two groups: Pages 8 to 11 years and Esquires 12 to 15 years. The Knight's Motto: "Live Pure, Speak True, Right Wrong, Follow Christ the King, else wherefore born?" Courts of the Order: General Conference Department of the Christian Education - General Court - Provincial High Court - District Court - Local Court - Senior Court - Intermediate Court - Junior Court . Regalia: All members of the Intermediate and Senior Courts wore regalia consisting of a cloth shield superimposed by a cross of light and dark blue ribbons, and supported by a cloth collar. Esquire and Degree of Sincerity regalia: White collar and white shield. Degree of Service regalia: Green collar and shield. Degree of Sacrifice: Scarlet collar and shield. District Court regalia: Blue collar and gold shield. High Court regalia: Gold collar and purple sheild. General Court regalia: Purple collar and shield. Tickets were produced to enable first-class travel from Middle Brighton Railways station to Sandringham and then by Electric Tramway from Sandringham Railway Station to the corner of Bluff Road and Royal Ave. The ticket colours indicated to station staff, Inspectors, and conductors the nature of the ticket and its availability These tickets were purchased by the donor in 1970 long after the tramway had closed and travel classes were abolished on the suburban railways. They were available for use on the replacement bus service. .1 -Set of 10, The Met, Zone 1 Daily Adult Scratch type tickets, $2.50, yellow with black printing and areas where a person could scratch out the month and day of the month areas to validate the ticket. Has the number on the base of the ticket. Printed for use between December 1989 and July 1990. .2 - One 3 Hour Adult ticket - $1.40. On the rear are the conditions of travel for both types of tickets, The Met logos, Transport Information and Transit Patrol telephone numbers. Some of the tickets have a message, along with logos that The Met is supporting the bid for the Olympics in Melbourne 1996. Three additional 3 hour zone 1 Adult ticket - 1.40 added on 4/7/15, from the donation of Rod Atkins on 13/6/15. Yields information about the style and printing of tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented.Block with five remaining tickets - brown ink on off white paper, denomination 4d, numbered V572795 - 99, headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Provincial Tramways. Originally a block of 100 tickets been stapled onto an off white, partially ruled cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a off white coloured cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. The ticket price is in brown ink while the ticket number itself is in black ink. On rear in brown ink is a diagonal criss cross or tartan pattern. Marysville House, home to Marysville Crystal Gardens and Shop was built by Arthur Dickinson as a guest house in the late 1920s, then added to in the late 1940s. It closed as a guest house in the late 1950s. The family catered for up to 40 guests at a time. It was also the family home and still is.
