Ephemera - Special event program, In Celebration of the Opening of the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia, 1901
Program for the first opening of Parliament after Federation. Prince George Frederick Ernest Albert (1865–1936), Duke of Cornwall and York was the second son of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The visit was part of an Empire tour and a tribute to the response made throughout the Empire during the Boer War. On their return to Britain the couple were proclaimed Prince and Princess of Wales and, on the death of Edward VII in 1910, became George V and Queen Mary.White coloured folded program, printed in purpleFront page/cover: UK Coat of Arms In Celebration of the Opening of the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia. Notebook, with three sections of 16 pages each, two pink, one blue, stapled individually onto a yellow coloured card cover and then covered with a printed black and gold patterned sheet to cover the staples. Shown in a tabular form are the timetables for each of the Ballarat and Bendigo routes in the 1960's, for Mondays to Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Gives the run number, times at various points, special workings, terminals, short workings. The tables for Sundays in Bendigo has been prepared but not filled in. In the blue section has various notes on Ballarat weekday runs, timetables. Robin Boyd wrote two books on Japanese architects and architecture - “Kenzo Tange” published by George Braziller in 1962 and “New Directions in Japanese Architecture” published by Studio Vista in 1968. During the 1960s he travelled several times to Japan to research these books and as part of his role as Exhibits Architect for the Australian Pavilion at Expo ‘70 in Osaka. The Walsh Street Archive has Boyd's handwritten manuscript 'Tokyo from the Monorail', published as ‘Modern Japan on a Concrete Beam’ in 'The Australian' 31/07/1965 (see item D001).Colour slide in a mount. Penleigh Boyd, Robin and Patricia Boyd's son, writes “Prior to 1950 Robin, like most other amateur or hobby photographers, took black and white printed photographs. The oldest slides date from 1950 when Robin and Patricia travelled to Europe on Robin’s Robert Haddon Travelling Scholarship.” In 1948 Robin Boyd was awarded ‘joint first place’ in the Robert Haddon competition for his design of Mildura art gallery. The scholarship helped fund their first overseas trip. Robin and Patricia were passengers on the Greek ship “Cyrenia” departing in May 1950, passing through the Suez Canal and landing in Genoa five weeks later. For six months, they travelled extensively throughout Europe (predominantly driving themselves) - France, Italy, United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Spain.Colour slide in a mount. Demonstrates aspects of the SEC ticketing, governance and monitoring systems. The Pass or ticket could be issued to a SEC staff member to enable travel on the tramways while on business. Style remained very similar to the end of the tramways.Six blocks of SEC Provincial Tramways "Staff Ticket" and four individual tickets. Individual tickets printed on heavy dark grey (Grey 200 gsm card) with black printing. Ticket blocks consist of 50 printed tickets, with stubs, stapled with red cardboard covers. Ticket good for single trip only, of use by employees when travelling on Commission's business. Form No. TYE-2-19. Not known when printed, possibly 1960's maybe earlier. 2101.1 - Aa 002580 - 2599. Robin Boyd was appointed Exhibits Architect for the Australian Pavilion at Expo ‘67 in Montreal. The garden outside the pavilion featured a sculptural pool, a coral display, animal pool, a pit for kangaroos and Eucalypts and other native plants. The indoor exhibits covered aspects of Australian art and culture, architecture, industrial design and scientific innovation, such as the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Power Scheme, the Parkes radio telescope, the design of Canberra, and the Australian way of life.Colour slide in a mount. This crochet chart was designed by the twentieth century crochet pattern designer, Mary Card, for the Victorian Centenary in 1934. It was published in the Australian Home Beautiful magazine on November 1934. The chart was published in four sections, with instructions for working it as a complete piece. Mary Card lived in Olinda and published books of her patterns and individual patterns in Australia, American and English magazines from 1909 until the 1930s.Giant paper crochet chart of Mary Cards Victorian Centenary cloth design, featuring Australian animals, ships, buildings and horseman. Chart has FLORENCE / MCNABB 1944 written in pen ar thje bottom. Over the orignial pattern which was printed with VICTORIAN / CENTENARY 1934. Chart is in 4 pieces, each attached to Cardboard.
