Ephemera - Weekly Tickets - rail and bus St Kilda Bus lines - set of 7, Victorian Railways (VR), 1960s
Following the complete closure of the St Kilda - Brighton Electric street railway (tramway) in 1959, the Brighton St Kilda Bus lines operated a service under a contract with the Victorian Railways with a joint ticketting arrangement. These tickets are weekly tickets for various locations along the former tramway. Those tickets available for Melbourne have the conditions of travel on the rear. The two vertical stripes indicated that the ticket was available to pass through the gates at Flinders St or Spencer St, while the large cross indicated to a ticket checker that the ticket was not available beyond St Kilda station or to pass through a set of gates. All printed on a off white card. Printed single sheet pamphlet, advertising the formation of the BTPS following the end of the SEC system and seeking support. Has a sketch of a bogie tram in the top right hand corner. References to Ballarat spelt with 'aa'. Has post office box number, but with box number in a different type face, almost handwritten. WWII 1 Gallon Fuel Ration Tickets: 3 x 1 gallon tickets on cream card with red and green print. Red background of a wall paper of oval shape and Department of Supply and Development. In red print at the top is "Motor Spirit Ration Ticket, issued under National Security (Liquid Fuel) Regulations". 1 One Gallon is in the centre and at the bottom is "This Ticket must be endorsed by consumer with name and licence number". Over printed in green is "Commonwealth Liquid Fuel Control Board, the Commonwealth Emblem and underneath is Valid only until 30th Sept 1941". On the back is "G. Freemason Lodges in Victoria were numbered in the order they were founded. The Balaclava Lodge was 162 and is now defunct. Dance cards became popular in the Victoria era. They were often worn looped around the woman's wrist and had a pencil attached (note the small hole for this at the bottom corner of this card).Folded card printed in gold and blue, being dance card for the Annual Ball of Masonic Lodge 162, Balaclava Lodge, held in St Kilda Town hall on 3 September 1896.
