Gertrude Perry was born in California Gully in 1917. Her singing skills were recognized at an early age. She later sang with local choirs and sang on radio. She was involved with the Bendigo Operatic Society for many years. Gertrude began her working life in sales. After studying book keeping she worked at the Bendigo Ordnance Factory during WW2 and then worked for local solicitors and accountants. The ticket is printed on a manila 210gsm card and printed using red ink to give day numbers, monthly, week number, transfers, and day of the week, excluding Sunday. Numbered on the right end of the ticket. Static number (1 - 7) on left indicates maybe the day of the issue. The ticket has been nipped in the day spaces 8 times and has been nipped for the month of April and week 1. On the rear of the ticket is the details of the ticket use, allowing the passenger one return journey between City and section 3 or 4. Not available on Sundays. The ticket was located on a tram behind a sandbox during maintenance works. Block of about 175 tickets - black ink on 60 gsm buff paper, denomination 1 1/2d (printed in red), numbered Bc410619 - B410799, headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Electricity Supply Department, Provincial Tramways. Originally a block of 200 tickets been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a small cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. The ticket number is in black ink while the "Bc" prefix is in red. On the back of each ticket is a "Bushells, the Tea of Flavour" advertisement. On each side various codes when clipped denoted the destination or section the ticket was validated for. Tickets Nos - 410634 - 38 have been torn out prior to collection. Each ticket in block has been stamped "CANCELLED". Thought to be used prior to 1950's around the second world war. See Reg. The fourth edition was published in 1937 and the 7th Edition was published in 1944. Robertson and Mullens , publishing company was formed in 1922 by the merger of George Robertson and Company and Melville and Mullen. Mullen and Robertson were friends who had immigrated from Scotland together and had initially set up separate bookselling and publishing businesses. The business operated out of 107-113 Elizabeth St., Melbourne and was delisted as a public company in 1960.A photocopy of Mullens Old Time Dance Guide on white paper with black text featuring an illustration of a man and a woman dancing in formal attire.
