Slide - DIGGERS & MINING. THE GOLD LICENCE, c1851
Diggers & Mining. The gold licence. The Government Camp. Between 1851 and 1854, there was continual unrest on nearly all of the Victorian diggings, due chiefly to the licence system and the repressive methods of its enforcement (though there were other causes - see Unit 8). The diggers held protest meetings; they formed diggers' associations; they sent petitions to the government. At times, serious rioting threatened - as at Bendigo in 1853. But the Legislative Council continued the system; Markings: 37 994.LIF. 4. Used as a teaching aid.hanimounteducation, tertiary, goldfields -

Slide - Photograph, Moonrise, Jane Price, Heidelberg School Artists Trail, Diamond Creek, c.Nov. 2001
The Heidelberg School Artists' Trail extends from Heidelberg through Eltham and Warrandyte and to the Dandenongs. It features signs depicting paintings of artists in the location in which they were painted. Transcription of sign: Jane Price is best known for her small moody impressionistic landscapes, many of which depict the rising moon and capture the softness of the evening twilight. In 1889, she shared a studio in Grosvenor Chambers, Collins Street east, Melbourne, with fellow Heidelberg School artists, Clara Southern and Jane Sutherland. She was also a close friend of Tom Roberts and Frederick McCubbin. Around the time of the First World War, and for several years after, she rented a ‘log cabin’ in Diamond Creek, and this was situated close to ‘The Shack’, the studio and home, of May Vale. Ruyton Girls' School
Programme, Ruyton Girls' School, Ruyton Speech Night Programme, 1948
Ruyton Girls' School has a long tradition of awarding prizes to students at annual "Speech Night" events. Speech Night commenced at Ruyton in 1878; the same year in which the School was founded by Mrs Charlotte Anderson. The Ruytonian December 1944, which recounts events from the last year to date, notes the 1943 Speech Night was the sixty-fifth iteration of the occasion. Previously, students were awarded customary books produced in England which were bound in navy blue leather, with the School's name and motto debossed in gold leaf. Speech Night at Ruyton is an extraordinary occasion. It is a time when the School gathers to celebrate both the year just lived and the contribution of Year 12 girls to the life of the School. It is a night of stirring student speeches, acknowledgement of student endeavour and excellence and awe-inspiring performances by School choirs and ensembles. Historic publications note Speech Night would typically "open with the distribution of prizes, followed by 13 musical items, a play, French Dialogue and four tableaux." This particular record is associated with the Speech Night held on 10 December 1948 at the Recreation Hall in Kew, Victoria. The record is historically significant due to the time period in which it was produced. This significance is strengthened in the way the record stands as a testament to the way Ruyton recognises, celebrates and engages its student through programming and events. The record's significance is further enhanced by its strong provenance, having been produced by Ruyton Girls' School and donated to the Archives by a familial connection to a former notable student.A5 size pamphlet printed on cream coloured paper with navy blue ink. Slide, Robin Boyd, 1956-1957
Robin Boyd developed a close friendship with the founder of the Bauhaus in Weimar Germany, Walter Gropius, who had moved to the USA in the 1930s. Through this connection, Boyd was invited to be the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Bemis Professor at the School in the North American academic year 1956-7. Robin and Patricia Boyd, with their youngest daughter Suzy, were based in Cambridge, Massachusetts for the year. Boyd gave some lectures at MIT and he was also invited to give lectures at many other universities, allowing him to travel widely within the USA, especially on the East Coast. This gave him the opportunity to meet architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, Eero Saarinen, Paul Rudolph and many others, and visit the offices of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, and places like Taliesin and the General Motors Technical Center Detroit. On the way home, the Boyds visited London, Berlin, Paris and Le Corbusier’s Ronchamp Chapel in France.Colour slide in a mount.
