Programme - Scots Church Ellerslie 1870-2014 Closing Service, 2014
The foundation stone of the Scots Church Ellerslie was laid by Mrs Jemima Vans Robertson on 1st November 1870. She was the leader and benefactor of the church. Worship services were held in the church for the next 145 years. The Sunday School was started in1871 and until 1977 Ellerslie was part of the Framlingham Presbyterian Charge. The PFA for young people was very active in the 1950s and 60s. Since 1977 the Ellerslie church has been part of the Uniting Church in Australia and was an integral part of the Mortlake Parish. The church closed in 2014 and marked for sale. This program is of some interest as it gives us a short history of Scots Church in Ellerslie and tells of its closure in 2014. This is a program for the closing of Scots Church Ellerslie (2014). It has five double pages with printed material and colour photographs. The pages are stapled together.Front Cover: Uniting Church in Australia, Scots Church Ellerslie 1870-2014 Formerly Presbyterian, Closing Service, 1.30 p.m. Sunday 7th December 2014ellerslie, scots church, presbyterian church, uniting church -

The Viet Cong occasionally wore the same or similiar headgear as the Australian forces in an attempt to create confusion when contact was made. Ruyton Girls' School
Programme, Ruyton Girls' School, Ruyton Speech Night Programme, 1945
Ruyton Girls' School has a long tradition of awarding prizes to students at annual "Speech Night" events. Speech Night commenced at Ruyton in 1878; the same year in which the School was founded by Mrs Charlotte Anderson. The Ruytonian December 1944, which recounts events from the last year to date, notes the 1943 Speech Night was the sixty-fifth iteration of the occasion. Previously, students were awarded customary books produced in England which were bound in navy blue leather, with the School's name and motto debossed in gold leaf. Speech Night at Ruyton is an extraordinary occasion. It is a time when the School gathers to celebrate both the year just lived and the contribution of Year 12 girls to the life of the School. It is a night of stirring student speeches, acknowledgement of student endeavour and excellence and awe-inspiring performances by School choirs and ensembles. Historic publications note Speech Night would typically "open with the distribution of prizes, followed by 13 musical items, a play, French Dialogue and four tableaux." This particular record is associated with the Speech Night held on 17 December 1945 at the Recreation Hall in Kew, Victoria. The record is historically significant due to the time period in which it was produced. This significance is strengthened in the way the record stands as a testament to the way Ruyton recognises, celebrates and engages its student through programming and events. The record's significance is further enhanced by its strong provenance, having been produced by Ruyton Girls' School and donated to the Archives by a familial connection to a former notable student.A5 size pamphlet printed on cream coloured paper with navy blue ink. Programme, Messrs Edward Cook & Co, Service of Prayer in this Time of National Crisis, 29 December 1915
Edward Cook & Co were soap makers and chemical manufacturers in Bow, London. The company registered its new name in 1898. It was later taken over by Unilever. The document, issued for use during the First World War for its employees is dated 29 December 1915. While days of prayer were traditionally conducted in parish churches, large companies also undertook to hold the services during World War 1. This work forms part of the collection assembled by the historian Dorothy Rogers, that was donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand. The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. Together it forms the largest privately-donated collection within the archives of the Kew Historical Society.Order of Service of Prayer held on 29 December 1915. The service included a Prayer for our Soldiers and Sailors and a Prayer for Victory and Peace. world war i, wwi, the great war, religious services, homefront, first world war, 1914-1918 -
Falls Creek Historical Society
Poster - Kangaroo Hoppet 2018
The Kangaroo Hoppet is Australia’s premier long distance cross country ski race, and a member of the Worldloppet series of international cross country ski events. The first race at Falls Creek was held in 1979 under the name of “Australian Birkebeiner”. It was a 21km race with about 80 participants organised by the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club of Mount Beauty. The course started and finished at Falls Creek Alpine Resort and took participants out into the Bogong High Plains. After running the event for 10 years, it was decided they should become part of the Worldloppet series of marathon ski races. Representatives from the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club and the Australian Ski Federation attended the Worldloppet Annual Meeting in Finland in June 1990 to put the case for the acceptance of an Australian event into the Worldloppet series. Before being admitted, they had to demonstrate that the Birkebeiner Club could run a world class event, so three months later in August 1990 a 42km event named the Australian International Ski Marathon was held at Falls Creek together with a 21km Birkebeiner race and a 7km event called the Birkebeiner Lite. The event was approved by delegates from USA, Norway and Austria, in 1991 Australia became the 12th member of Worldloppet, with the condition that there had to be a name change. After some late night discussion allegedly involving red wine from North East Victoria the main event became the 42km Kangaroo Hoppet, with the minor events being the 21km Australian Birkebeiner, and 7km Joey Hoppet. In the winter of 1991, the first Kangaroo Hoppet was held. It was a great success and has been a regular fixture on the international ski calendar ever since. It features the main 42km event as well as a 21km event and a 7km event. The Hoppet brings the Australian snowfields to an international audience. In 2018 the Men's Winner was Valerio Leccardi from Switzerland in a time of 1:39:55. The winner of the Women's event was Barbara Jezersek of Australia in a time of 1:52:59. This poster is significant because it documents an event which brings international attention to Falls Creek and the surrounding region.A poster featuring an aerial view of a Hoppet event with smaller image in diamond shapes on the right.
