Photograph - Private bus in Swanston St with Foys in the background, Ron E. Fluck, 10/04/1950
Photo of a privately operated bus in Swanston St. Melbourne at the intersection of Bourke St., with Foys (Foy and Gibson) department store in the background. Bourke St. trams yet to be built. Photo taken 10-4-1950. Also has the Cosmopolitan Hotel in the background. From information provided by the Bus and Coach Society of Victoria: "The bus outside Foys belongs to Lew Page who was one of the multiple operators on Route 1 in 1950 ( he also had one bus on Route 2) which was four years before they amalgamated to form Melbourne - Brighton Bus Lines. The bus is a Reo with a Giles body. Giles Motor Body Works was based in New Street Brighton and built bodies for commercial vehicles but not a lot of buses. Their half a dozen post-war buses mainly went to operators in Routes 1 and 2. Being on Route 1, the bus would have been red and cream." Photograph - 23 St Johns Avenue, Mont Albert, The Street Where You Live Project
Photos documenting this address as part of a photographic series undertaken by volunteer photographers during 2013 and 2014 for The Street Where You Live Project. This was organised through the Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre and covered the postcode 3127 in the cities of Boroondara and Whitehorse. These photos provide a snapshot of real estate in the suburbs of Mont Albert and Surrey Hills during a period of rapid change with many properties on large blocks demolished to create higher density residential development or renewal of single dwellings. At particular risk were properties not covered by heritage overlays, especially interwar housing and post 1950's housing. -

Photograph, Ball Court Hotel
The hotel was built some time shortly after 1842 by John Cahill, who arrived in the colony in 1842 from Thurles in Tipperary, Ireland. The building although much altered with render covering the original \blue stone structure is on the south-west corner of Macedon and Jackson Streets. The hotel was called the Ball Court because Cahill also had a hand-ball court set up behind the hotel.Originally five hotels were built along Macedon Street between Jackson Creek and Evans Street. The Ball Court Hotel is the only one still standing and operating as a hotel.A non-digital black and white photograph with a cream border of man and three ladies standing outside a single story blue stone hotel building with a corner entrance. AS well as the corner entrance there is another doorway on the RHS along with three narrow windows and three other windows on the other side. One of the ladies is holding a little child. Two trees surrounded by tree guards are on each side of the photograph.Ball Court Hotel, John Cahillball court hotel, hotels, sunbury, macedon street, jackson street, ball court -

The photograph is from the album of Ivy May Child. The scene is looking down across the Kalorama Valley in the early 1930s. Probably across the Jeeves and Child properties. Ivy May Child (1910 – 1989) was the daughter of Arthur Edward (Ted) Child (1878 – 1964) and Ethel May Madden (1888 – 1970). Ted Child was the son of Matthew Francis Child (1839 – 1933) and Martha Jeeves (1857 – 1926). He was the grandson of one of the early pioneers Francis Child. Ivy grew up on the family property on Childs Road and took many photographs. Most of these are glued into her photo album. The album covered the years from c1927 – 1932. Ivy married Henry William Burgess (1906 – 1968) in 1944. The photographs remain in their original state in the album with individual copies made. Black and white photograph with a post and wire fence in the foreground , hills in the distance and a cultivated area in the centre.Written below the photograph in the album: The Valleyjeeves, child, kalorama valley, kalorama, valley -
