Dr Harry Jenkins owned Churchill Island from 1936 to 1963 and bequeathed it to Margaret Campbell on his death. Sister Campbell had been nurse to his disabled son and wife and she lived on the island from the time of World War Two. The item was given to Arthur Evans, a family friend, on the day of the auction sale of artifacts when she sold the island, approximately 1973.The letter provides information regarding the purchase of Churchill Island.Typed solicitor's letter from Henderson & Ball Solicitors & Co, to Mr. E.H. This set of slides, possibly on the last weekend of Mt Pleasant services - closure took place on 5/9/1971. . .1 - 30 rounding the curve from Lydiard St Nth to Sturt St. Tram has destination of Sebastopol. IN the background is the Commonwealth bank and the SEC cabinet switch isolator on the corner. .2 - 13 and another single trucker at the City terminus, north side with Racey's store and the SEC offices in the background. 13 has a Twin Lakes sign and the destination of Victoria St. .3 - 26 (Mt Pleasant) and 27 at the city terminus, with many passengers. Has the town hall in the background. .4 - 14 turning from Sturt St into Lydiard St (destination does not appear to be Lydiard St nth - City Oval?) with the ANZ bank in the background. A number of passengers waiting at the tram stop. .5 - 14 in Sturt St west near Pleasant St, at City Oval, with the pole being reversed by a "Bounds". Series of three Colour photograph of Ballarat No. 37 using the Dawson St. crossover in Sturt St. Photos on Agfa Paper and taken on Friday 21 August 1971. Tram has the destination of Lydiard St. North and two roof advertisements for the SEC "Everything's under control in my all electric kitchen" on either side of the tram. 2427.1 - Photo of tram about to use the crossover with St. Patricks Cathedral in the background. 2427.2 - as above, but with tram on crossover. Bottom right hand corner appears to have a sleeve from someone else in the photograph. 2427.3 - after tram has completed the use of the crossover and continuing along Sturt St. to the City terminus. On 18th June 1853 the 839 ton ship 'Earl of Charlemont' was wrecked near Barwon Heads. Her 450 passengers and crew struggled ashore without loss of life. Among them were John and Anne Morton, their 3 sons and 5 daughters. Before leaving Ireland, their eldest son George Pickering Morton, had married Anne Eliza Burrowes. Their son, Thomas Richard Burrowes Morton, born in Melbourne on 12 March 1854, was usually known as ' T.R.B.' Aged 26 he married Louisa Mary Esther Morgan. In 1909 Louisa Morton had a cottage built at Points Lonsdale and named it 'Dorrington', surname of her Welsh Grandmother. During previous holidays the family stayed at the 'Terminus'. They travelled by train from Blackburn to Port Melbourne, paddle-steamer to Queenscliff and horse-bus to Point Lonsdale.Black and white copy, No. 19 of set of 27 - Jack as a small child at beach. Photo is on the front only of the tram, one cab window smashed, dash canopy lighting cover partly torn off. Crew members - one inside tram, one on outside. Another person standing by the doorway wearing a leather apron. Trams has destination of Grey St. Sebastl" Person looking into tram wearing the leather apron is probably the driver of the Fruit truck that collided with the tram.
