Document - Manuscript, Robin Boyd, The Architect's Role in the Community
Appears to be a handwritten speech where Boyd discusses the architect's role in the community and describes architecture as "getting bigger". Boyd describes the shift in architect's thinking as moving away from the individual building to the city or the community. He argues that architecture inherently affects our lives if we live in ugliness, or in attractive surroundings and that the architect is responsible as moral and artistic leaders of the built environment.Handwritten (pencil), quarto, 1 pageNumbered paragraphs. Underlined phrases. Circles in margin.w.churchill, buckminster fuller, strategic plan for sydney, megastructure, community, park the length of swanston street, japan -

Document - Account and receipt, Receipt signed (?) ES - possibly Eric Scanlan, Crump's Milk Pasteurising Depot account with attached receipt, 2 October 1958 /6 October 1958
Crumps Dairy (Milk Pasteurising Depot) was located at 6 Benson Street, Surrey Hills on the corner of Weybridge Street until c1973. It was demolished after it had been badly vandalised. The business closed after cartons replaced glassperishables including milk, bread, meat and fruit and vegetables bottles for sale of milk. It was one of many small local facilities for processing and delivering milk that existed from the early 1920s. Eric William Walker Crump (1903-1981) headed the family business. Also involved were Kevin Eric Crump, Eric William Scanlan. NB/ Also held in this collection is a copy of a project by Chatham Primary School student, Susanne Pascoe, dated 1956 which includes photos of the dairy's operations. An oral history by Dave Croft, a driver for the dairy, who lived close by, is also relevant. The account also mentions 'Towt'. Canterbury Oliver Towt (1890-1962) was another dairyman whose premises was on the corner of Chatham and Mont Albert Roads. This is material evidence of business practice c1920s-1960s when accounts for goods received, especially perishables, were often hand-delivered on a weekly basis, with monies owed collected at the door. A paper account printed red on cream (discoloured) paper with the details of the date, account holder and address typed in and the amount owed hand-written in blue ink. The attached receipt has been stuck onto the account and filled out in grey pencil and blue ink. The amounts are in pounds, shillings and pence.Typed: 2/1; 2 OCT. 1958 M/- MATTHEWS, 42 GUILDFROD RD. Document - Series Listing, Fraser Faithfull et al, The Shire of Eltham Memorabilia Collection, 2000
The collection has been catalogued into a number of Series. The main series are Series 1: Main Photographic Series; Series 2: Main Transparency Series; and Series 3: Brochures and Published materials. Every Item in each of these major Series has been individually catalogued on a spreadsheet, one spreadsheet per Series. A further 70 Series have been created to catalogue smaller, discrete collections of photographs and negatives and other memorabilia including registers, published materials and objects. The completion of its transfer to the Society was noted in Newsletter No. 159 November 2004. Generally memorabilia items classified as part of Council 's art collection and negatives of historical photographs have been retained by the Council. The items now stored at our Local History Centre are quite diverse. They include many photographs of Council activities, Councillors and Council staff. There are Council brochures, calendars and other publications. All of these items are catalogued and stored in quality archival boxes. Also included is a large collection of old Council registers such as letter books, contract registers, cash books, etc. Many of these are large leather bound volumes, more of interest for their appearance than for their content. The first meeting of the Memorabilia Reference Group was held December 5, 1996. The aim of the group was to facilitate all actions required for the safekeeping of the Shire of Eltham memorabilia. The members of the group were Harry Gilham President of the Eltham District Historical Society (EDHS), Russell Yeoman EDHS Secretary and Chris Marks Curator of Collections at NSC.shire of eltham archives, series listing, memorabilia reference group -
