Hand written notes on the fire at the Garden Gully United Mine 29/3/1911. Two reports from the Bendigo Advertiser 29 and 30 March 1911. First report battery watchman John Davey saw nothing unusual, then later saw the reflection of fire in the engine house. Second report mentions hose stretched over Mt Korong Rd being run over by Chinese market gardeners and others making the leaky hose leak all the more. Cages only travelled a short distance after the ropes broke. Unemployment after air compressors ruined by the fire. Tait collection: item 18 of 62 This document contains information on the Probate papers of James Evenett, a fellmonger from Warrnambool. He died in September 1898. James Evenett had a fellmongery on the Merri River, commencing business about 1869 and continuing in to the 1890s. In the 1880s his woolscouring works employed four people and this increased to ten at the busy times. He purchased sheepskins from the neighbouring farms and sent the wool to England with the skins being used in the Merri River tannery works. He left real estate property to the value of £686 and personal estate to the value of £200. The three executors were William Ponting, James Harman and his wife Mary Evenett. These probate papers relate to James Evenett, a fellmonger from Warrnambool.This is an 1898 document containing the Probate papers of James Evenett. The paper has been folded in two with handwritten material on four sides. There is a seal of the Supreme Court of the Colony of Victoria attached with a green ribbon and a red stamp of the Master in Equity of the Supreme Court. Two licences, yellow-brown Victorian Gold License No 210, dated May 31, 1853 (a) and a Miner's Right No 20, dated 28 June 1861(b). The Gold License cost one pound ten shillings and for the month of June 1853. It was for Crown Lands within the Loddon District. At the bottom of the license are five Regulations to be observed by the person digging for gold or otherwise employed at the Gold Diggings. It has a crest at the top with a lion and a unicorn. Printed on a circular cnetre piece are the words: Honi so- -al y pense and below the lion, Dieu, in the centre is -t mon and under the unicorn is droit. The Miner's Right No 20, issued by the Colony of Victoria, for the District of Maldon, cost one pound. Across the top is a crest with a lion and a unicorn holding up an oval piece with a crown and a lion on top, In the oval is an illustration with two men and a woman and sailing ships in the background. Around the top of the oval is: Moni s- - qui mal y pense and at the bottom: Advance - Australia. Under the lion is: Dieu et mon and under the unicorn: Droit. Has been stamped in black, but is unreadable. Signatures and names on both documents are very hard to read.
