These sashes were awarded to Frank Pevitt a successful runner in the late 1940's and early 1950's. The year 1954 was when Frank finally came into his own. In March he came second in the mile and two miles in Bendigo and then, a week later, won the Lilydale Gift and the Eighty five pound prize. In April he won the two-mile Grampian Stakes at Stawell. In a large field of 81 starters, he won by five yards. Following this, he came a creditable third in the Bendigo Guineas. To cap off the year, at the end of December he won the Port Fairy Mile from John Barmby, 'effortlessly' according to the Argus newspaper. In 1955 Frank won the mile at the Orford Sports Club meeting and then decided to retire from running More information on Frank's career as a runner can be found in 'Icons of Port Fairy' a book published by the Port Fairy Historical Society which contains information on objects and people 'Iconic' in our area. These sashes are representative of local resident Frank Pevitt's athletics career and the part that sport played in the early 20th century2 sashes royal blue, a. Award - Pewter Mug Trophies - Ross and Malcolm Milne - Thredbo Cup Men's Amateur Ski Classic
This Pewter Mug Collection is a set of 32 trophies won by Australian Alpine skiers Ross and Malcolm Milne between 1959 and 1964. Ross and Malcolm grew up on their family's tobacco property in Myrtleford, and began skiing at Falls Creek at an early age. They were both taught by Austrian Sigi Haberzettl, who was chief coach at Falls Creek for 17 years. Ross went on to win the North-Eastern District Ski Association (NEDSA) Junior Championships for three years in a row. In 1961 Ross was a member of the Australian team which competed against New Zealand in the Inter-Dominion Championships. In 1963, he won the Downhill and Alpine Combined title at the Australian Championships, while placing second in the Grand Slalom event. Ross Milne was selected in the Australian team that participated in the 1964 Olympic Winter Games at Innsbruck, Austria. A few days before the opening of the Games, on 25 January 1964, he tragically lost his life when he crashed into a tree during a training run for the Men's Downhill. He was only 19 years of age. Malcolm became a member of the Australian Junior Ski Team to Japan at the age of 14. He won all of the NEDSA children’s races and won the State Title in 1966. Award, City of Kew, Recreational Achievement Award : Auburn Heights Women's Tennis Team, 1978
Sports Clubs in Kew in the final decades of the 19th century and in the early 20th century were often umbrella organisations with facilities for a number of sports. Typically in Kew, this included teams in lawn bowls, tennis and croquet. The Kew Bowling Club was formed in 1880 while the privately owned Auburn Heights Recreation Club was opened in 1904. By 1998, the two Clubs decided to amalgamate at the Auburn Heights site in Barkers Road, forming the Kew Heights Sports Club. The combined club was itself taken over by the Melbourne Cricket Club in 2012 becoming MCC Kew Sports Club. In 2017 MCC Kew closed and its landholding was subsequently sold to Carey Baptist Grammar School. Both the Kew and Auburn Heights Clubs assembled important collections. These historically significant and large collections were donated to the Society in 2020. The collections include manuscripts, pictures, trophies, plans, honour boards etc. References Barnard FGA 1910, 'Sports and Pastimes' in Jubilee History of Kew Victoria: Its origin & progress 1803-1910. They are also significant to the sporting history of the greater Melbourne area and to the sports of lawn bowls and tennis in Australia in the 19th and 20th centuries. This medal was conferred posthumously as Robin Boyd died in 1971. She gave an acceptance speech at this event.Certificate from The American Institute of Architects, with crest, conferring 1973 Architecture Critics' Medal on Robin Boyd. Signed by the President, F. Scott Ferebee Jr, and Secretary, Hilliard J. Smith Jr. It is in a perspex frame. The American Institute of Architects is honored to confer the 1973 Architecture Critics' Medal on Robin Boyd. Distinguished creator as well as critic of architecture, Robin Boyd was passionately devoted to the ideal of what the human environment - particularly that most intimate environment, the home - could be. His writing could be pitiless, because he hated the cheap, the shoddy, the ugly around us. But more than most critics, he was able to empathize with us fellow professionals as they struggled to solve what he called "the puzzle of architecture'. May 1973.
