Postcard (item) - Colour postcard, Nucolorvue Productions Pty. Ltd, Panoramic View of Marysville, Pre 2009
A colour photograph of the view of Marysville from Barton's Lookout which is near the Cumberland Valley in Victoria.A colour photograph of the view of Marysville from Barton's Lookout which is near the Cumberland Valley in Victoria. The Cumberland Valley is notable for its giant mountain ash (Eucalyptus regnans) trees within the Cumberland Memorial Scenic Reserve, and relics from former sawmills and gold mining. The Big Culvert is located nearby on the Marysville-Woods Point Road, which was historically part of the Yarra Track. Cambarville, which is in the Cumberland Valley, was established as a timber mill town in the 1940s. Timber mill owners A Cameron and FJ Barton named Cambarville. They established the mill to salvage timber from trees destroyed in the 1939 bushfires. Cambarville was impacted by the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires and any remaining structures were destroyed. Barton's Lookout was named after a member of the Barton Family who were amongst Marysville's earliest pioneering families. Port Fairy Historical Society Museum and Archives
Postcard - Post Card, The Rose Series / The Rose Stereographs, The Lovers Walk in the Gardens, Port Fairy
The Port Fairy Botanical Gardens were formed in 1856 making it one of the earliest gardens in Victoria. The first curator was James Prior, he was paid fifty-two pounds per annum. He was an outstanding curator having been apprenticed to the trade in England at the age of 12, his brother Edward in later years was the Curator of the Koroit Gardens. Prior retired in 1903. During the years of his curatorship Port Fairy was said to have the best gardens outside the city of Melbourne, he was constantly in touch with Baron Von Mueller and later Guilfoyle of the Royal Botanical Gardens of Melbourne. In the early years plants from all over the world were planted here with varying rates of success many of them sent by Baron Von Mueller. In the 1930’ and 40’s the gardens were still very beautiful, and the curator was Roy Manuell. The beautiful iron gates at the entrance were destroyed in the 1946 floods and were replaced in 1989 using some of the material from the original gates. From the 1950’s on the gardens went into a state of decline, much being taken up by the caravan park until in 1986, after a public meeting ‘Friends of the Gardens’ was founded when the entrance section was restored. Black and white photo: Head and shoulders image of F. Liszt He is wearing a three piece suit, waistcoat buttoned up to neck, stiff white collar. Long white hair, profile image. Generic letter from F. Liszt is printed on rear of postcard. The letter reads; mason & Hamlin Co. Boston - Letter from Franz Liszt to Mason & Hamlin Co.. Highly esteemed Sirs; - What a magnificent organ for which I have to thank you! It is a marvel, and really praiseworthy! Even players of moderate ability will be able to create much admiration in its use. I shall have this summer, in all probability, a call from Dr. Naumann, of Jena, Walter Bache, of London, and St. Saens, who, in my opinion, is the most eminent and greatest master of the organ. I shall not fail to induce these artists to become acquainted with your instrument. There need not be any fear of its being misused; it will remain closed to the ordinary player. Accept, dear sirs, the sentiment of my deep esteem and gratitude. Weimer, June 12, 1883. F. Liszt.Mason & Hamlin Co., Bostonperson, individual, f. liszt, sandhurst, bendigo, pethard, f. liszt -

Postcard - High Street, East Kew, c.1927
High Street, Kew is the main Road in Kew. It was once also known as Bulleen Road, or Main Street. This section of the road is in Kew, although the narrow section on the right hand side of the photo is now Kew East. High Street progresses through a number of significant road junctions: beginning at Barkers Road; progressing through the intersection of Studley Park Road, Denmark Street and Princess Street at Kew Junction; branching left at the junction with Cotham Road; before reaching the junction with Valerie Street and Harp Road. It reaches its end at the junction of Burke Road, Kilby Road, Bulleen Road and High Street itself. An early photograph of this iconic Memorial that locates it in its context. Small, colorised real photo postcard of High Street, East Kew. Electric light poles line the road. Victoria Park is on the left and further on the horizon is the Boroondara General Cemetery.high street -- kew (vic.), victoria park, tram lines -- kew (vic.) -
