The Lions Club in Warrnambool received its Charter in 1960 and this is the program for that historic event. The Warrnambool Lions Club was sponsored by the Lions Club of Colac on that occasion. The local group still exists today as an important service club in the city and district. The program is of some importance as it marks the establishment of an important service club in the city. However its importance is somewhat diminished by the fact that it is not an original document.This is a booklet of seven pages which have been photocopied. The information has been printed and includes the program for the evening, the current officers, directors and charter members, the menu for the meal, the Lions Club Code of Ethics and Objects and space for autographs. The cover has a colour photograph of Warrnambool Harbour and the Lions Club Logo is printed in yellow. The first Emerging Writers’ Festival was held at the Victoria Hotel in Little Collins Street in January, 2004. The inaugural festival developed out of Express Media's Make It Up zine fair. It brought together the offerings of 68 writers from across Australia in a two-day series of panels, readings, performances and workshops. Express Media ‘s Artistic Director Richard Watts was the driving force behind the ground breaking initiative that was to become the Emerging Writers’ Festival. It was clear to him through the success and the demand of the Make It Up zine fair, which had its origins in 2000, that writing and writers were in the process of radical change and needed a new environment to grow. In response, Express Media formed a partnership with the Victorian Writers’ Centre and held the first Emerging Writers’ Festival with the tagline, the best Australian writers you haven’t heard of yet. The beginnings were humble but the foundations strong. Associate Professor Catherine Laffey has been described as a changemaker and educationalist. In 1993 she was the ALP candidate for Ballarat Province, and stood as a candidate for the Australian Labor Party in the Legislative Council Province of Ballarat at the Victorian state election, which was held on 30 March 1996. On 18 March 1999 University Council approved the appointment of Ms Catherine Laffey to the Human Research Ethics Committee as a member co-opted from the TAFE Sector. In 2005 she was elected to University Council as the TAFE Representative, and around 2007 the Univesity of Ballarat Consultative Committee. Catherine Laffey was appointed Head of the School of Human Services in 2009.
