The Adult Deaf and Dumb Mission of Victoria, now known as Vicdeaf, (the Victorian Deaf Society), was founded in 1884 as the Victorian Society for Promoting the Spiritual and Temporal Welfare of the Adult Deaf and Dumb. The provisional committee being Mr W Bates, Mr J M Bruce, Mr J D Gowan, Mr Edwin Newbiggin, Mr C M Officer, M. L, A., and the Rev. W. Moss. The Adult Deaf and Dumb Mission's objects were: 1. non-fictionThe 2/23rd Infantry Battalion was raised at the Albury Showgrounds in New South Wales in June 1940, as part of the 26th Brigade. Initially the brigade belonged to the 7th Division but in early 1941 moved to the 9th Division. The need fo larger quarters saw the battalion transferring to a new camp at Bonegilla to complete their training .before sailing for the Middle East in November. Most of those enlisted in this Battalion were volunteers from the Albury Wodonga area the Aldermen of Albury expressend the wish that the unit be given the title of "Albury's Own" and this was accepted on its behalf but the commanding officer. The men of the 2/23 rd Battalion served with honour in the Middle East, including at the Siege of Tobruk and El Alamein. After returning to Queensland for training in jungle warfare conditions, they were then deployed to New Guinea and Tarakan. This book tells the story of the service and brotherhood demonstrated by the men of "Albury's Own." This map was created as a plan for an auction of land close to the Bacchus Marsh Railway Station. The auction took place on 23 October 1888. 102 allotments of land from an area known as Lodge and Dunn's paddocks was offered for sale. The auction was conducted by auctioneers based in Melbourne and was advertised in Melbourne newspapers as well as in the Bacchus Marsh Express newspaper. The auction plan contains a range of details including the selling agents, Munro and Baillieu; W.P. Lockhart; and John Turner, all of Melbourne, deposit terms for purchases, price of railway passes for a return trip from Melbourne to Bacchus Marsh of 1 shilling, and a description of the land as having 'magnificent views and perfect drainage'. A single page paper map showing allotments of land for sale along the Parwan Road in Maddingley. The map is pasted into a bound volume containing 76 maps or plans in total. non-fictionThis collection of letters by Bert Webster is a record of service of two Australian cousins both destined to die in WW1. In 1911 Bert Webster, a Victorian by birth, joined the Royal Naval Reserve. By November 1914 he was Acting Petty Officer on HMAS Cerberus. In March 1915 Bert transferred to the newly formed 1st Royal Australian Naval Bridging Train similar to being Naval Engineers. They landed at Suvla north of Anzac Cove during the August Offensives in 1915. After the Gallipoli evacuation the RANBT was disbanded at which time Bert Webster transferred the 23rd Battalion AIF. He went with the Battalion to the Western Front. Bert was killed on the night of the 28th July 1916 while in the trenches at Pozières. (Books on War)world war 1914-1918, bert webster

Arthur Lock was enlisted with the 2/23rd Battalion in World War 2. After the conclusion of the war, he was an active member of the Rats of Tobruk Association and the 2/23rd Infantry Battalion Association. This item is part of a collection of items owned by Arthur Lock, a member of the 2/23rd Battalion, an all-volunteer Second Australian Imperial Force which served as part of the garrison during the Siege of Tobruk, then at El Alamein, New Guinea and Borneo. It has particular local significance as the battalion was know as "Albury's Own" because a large majority of the battalion's initial intake of volunteers came from the Albury–Wodonga region.
