The Hawthorn Oyster Shop was situated on the corner of Power Street and Burwood Road and was owned by Gerasmos (Lekatsas) Lucas in the 1920s. The people in the photograph are from L-R: ..?.., Gerasmos Lucas, Kalliope Lucas, Nina Lucas, Loula Kouvaras and Andrew Lucas.Although many Ithacans opened businesses in Melbourne's CBD, there were others who operated food vending businesses in the inner suburbs. The photo of the family group is at an annual Ithacan picnic held in the 1930. Behind the group are family cars which reflect the increasing economic prosperity of members of the Ithacan community. Many, however, travelled to the picnic in hired vans and later chartered buses. A sepia photograph with a white border of a family group sitting in front of a 1920-30s motor car. The Ithacan Philanthropic Society has been donating to the Royal Children's Hospital since 1922. Easter fundraiser functions have been held at the clubrooms to support the annual Children's Hospital Appeal. The photo shows a group of IPS members presenting a cheque for $10000 to the hospital's Good Friday Appeal.
