This cup came from the Warrnambool APEX Club . The first APEX Club was founded in Geelong in 1951 and Warrnambool APEX Club was the fifth Club founded in 1951. This was a community service organisation with members aged between 18 and 45. Warrnambool APEX Club closed in 2011. It is not clear what this trophy was awarded for but the local APEX Club was involved in debating and public speaking competitions.This cup is retained as an important memento of the Warrnambool APEX Club (now closed).This is a silver plated cup. It has a a half oval shaped cup on a stand. There are two large handles on either side. This trophy was awarded from 1965 to 2010 and the tray contains the names of 45 winners. David Chittick, after whom the trophy is named, was the winner in 1966. As he was a prominent member of the Warrnambool Apex Club it is presumed that this was an Apex trophy. An Apex Club, a service club for members aged between 18 and 45, was first formed in Geelong in 1931 and the Warrnambool Apex Club was the fifth club established in 1931. It went into recess in 1941, was re-formed in 1952 and closed in 2011.This trophy is an important memento from the time when the Warrnambool Apex Club was a prominent service club in the city. This is a silver tray with a heavily-embossed rim of scrolls and patterns. The inner section of the tray has the names of the winners of the trophy etched around the edge. This tray was commissioned as a perpetual trophy for the Apex District 2 (south west Victoria) public speaking competition. The names of 27 winners from 1977 to 2003 are inscribed on the tray. Apex Clubs are service clubs that provide people with the opportunity to volunteer within their community. Members are aged between 18 and 45. The first Apex Club was formed in Geelong in 1931 and Warrnambool Apex Club was the fifth club established in 1931. It went into recess in 1941 and was re-established in 1952. The club closed in 2011. This tray is of interest as an example of the awards given by local Apex Clubs and is retained because the Warrnambool Apex Club closed in 2011. This is a rectangular-shaped silver-plated tray with an etched decorative pattern, two handles attached to the base by metal screws and two side railings also attached to the tray by metal screws. The base has a brown board (mock leather?) inserted through the metal screws. The tray has the names of the winners of the trophy inscribed around the edge of the tray.
