Collection of exercise books used by E J (Jack) Barker when he attended Footscray Technical School. He studied Diplomas in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering - three year course - 1942-1944. Prior to this he had attended Williamstown North State School then Williamstown High School. He changed to Footscray Technical School as he was less interested in the academic subjects and more interested in technical subjects. He chose Engineering as it gave access to Diploma Courses and tertiary studies. This enabled him to enter the University of Melbourne and do a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering - 1945, 1946, and 1947. In 1948 he did a Diploma in Education at Melbourne University. From this path he was able to follow a career in teaching and his first appointment was at the School of Mines in Ballarat, (SMB) 1949. He became the first Vice Principal of SMB in 1960 and then Principal in 1964 to 1976. From 1976 to his retirement in 1987, he was the Foundation Director of Ballarat College of Advanced Education (BCAE). Blackwood Howie.A small book - Exploring the Gippsland Lakes 1882. this is a republication of a C 1882 book titled Tourists and Sportsman's Guide to the Gippsland Lakes and Surrounding Country. This pocket reading republishes a story from 1882 that was aimed at promoting tourism to the Gippsland Lakes. It starts with a train trip from Melbourne to Sale and then boards a steamer to experience the Gippsland Lakes. The book was published by Paynesville Maritime Museum in January 2010. ... Report on the East Gippsland Study Area ...In 1961 Bruce Evans was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Gippsland East. He was the party's deputy leader from 1964 to 1970 and its whip from 1970 until his retirement in 1992. "The Land Conservation Council was established by the Land Conservation Act 1970. As one of its three functions, it makes recommendations to the Minister for Planning and Environment with respect to the use of public land, in order to provide for the balanced use of land in Victoria. This report contains the Council’s final recommendations concerning the use of public land in the East Gippsland study area, the boundaries of which correspond to those of the Shire of Orbost. The recommendations in the text are grouped under major headings, such as Parks, State Forest, and so on. " The Council met on seven occasions during the year, and also made visits of inspection to each study area. The Chairman visited Shire Councils in study areas to explain the role and the functions of the Land Conservation Council and to invite submissions on the use of public land in these areas.
