Set of nine of printed illustrations - postcard size of Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board Tramcars produced in 1978. Separate card for each class of tramcar featured, with notes, statistics, MMTB name. Each card also has printers name and date on back. Not a formal postcard, no place for a stamp. 1810.1 - X1 - 465 with 466 in background. Colour postcard of Swanston St. Melbourne during a busy time, with many trams in view. Taken with a telephoto lens near Latrobe St., looking down at Lonsdale St. Intersection. Front tram is W2 484, showing CITY, inbound on route 64. Other trams are 364, 229. Has about 14 trams in photo. Shrine of Remembrance in far background. Has on rear caption, "National View" by Murfett Pty Ltd. Australia, place for address and stamp. Taken prior to fitting marker lights on the W2's. Demonstrates post card making by a major postcard manufacture, late 1960's and yields information about Sturt St at night.Colour postcard with serrated edges of a Ballarat bogie tram at dusk in Sturt St, parked in City Loop. with Town Hall in background. Tram has destination of "CITY". Photo includes illuminated Paterson, T&G, Myer and the Vegas theatre signs. Has many parked cars in Sturt St, with red lines from the tail lights of vehicles moving on image. On rear , printed in dark green ink is the card details etc. "Ballarat, Victoria, Sturt St, Ballarat at dusk looking to the Town Hall." Nucolorvue card, BT 69. 2nd copy - in good order. See also Reg. Tram 18 has White Horse Whiskey ad on front dash panel, SEC Roof ad "Electricity best for Cooking" and a "CASTROL" ad, and showing destination of "Eaglehawk". Single truck car has SEC roof ad "You'll Cook better electrically" and a roof ad for "B.J. Osborn Plumbing Service" ad. Has City Club Hotel and Plaza Theatre buildings in background. Photo of Ballarat tram 27, southbound at Grey St. loop waiting to cross a City bound tram car. Has one male passenger waiting to board the inbound tram and a conductor (in SEC hat) waiting to board the tram and act as the conductor back into the City. Trams between Bell St. and Sebastopol during the day, were driver only. Conductors changed trams at Bell St. or wherever they crossed one another on the single track. Tram has destination of "Sebastopol", and advertisements for "Twin Lakes" and Whitehorse whiskey. Note long grass on the left hand side of the photo. Set of three Kodak cardboard mounted slides - have handwritten captions and slide numbers - no date, post dash canopy lights but with the largely green front - early 1960's. From the Eldon Hogan collection. Scanned on the Canon scanner at the depot 15/12/1971 at the time of the installation of the scanner. .1 - No. 16 and a bogie car at Charing Cross, early 1960's with the City Club Hotel in the background. .2 - No. 18 at Charing Cross with the destination of Quarry Hill and with the City Club Hotel in the background .3 - No. 25 at the Eaglehawk terminus with two crewmen standing in front of the tram. Tram has the destination of Eaglehawk. The photo taken at the corner of Moorabool and Malop Streets is looking south along Moorabool St. Shows Geelong tram 4 with the destination of North, about to turn into Malop St with several passengers boarding the tram. In the background is a safety zone sign, the Solomons store, the T&G building, and many angle-parked motor cars. The T&G building is finished. Negative No. N379 and black and white print made by a laser printer (stored in folder) of Ballarat No. 21 at the City terminus, with Gardens via Sturt St. West destination. Tram has been painted with tiger strips on bumper bar and under destination box, and a white stripe painted over the car under number under the windscreen. Additional lights and cover yet to be fitted. Car is fitted with plain weather blinds. Photo by Travis Jeffrey, 1960. Travis advised that the driver could be Max Green, ex ESCo employee, Brother in Law of Mrs Gwen Kellett. Has the Commonwealth bank and National Mutual building in the background and Berry Anderson printers. On front of tram is an advertisement for Mutual Homes. Date of photo on folder 28/9/1961. This date appears to be incorrect, as Reg Item 417, Wal Jack photo of 2/1/61 shows the tramcar in the same stage of conversion. Probably taken 12/1960 or 1/1961. Large print of this photo made for display 1995c. Item updated when negative added to collection - 11/5/2003. Original negative rescanned 24/5/2020 and image file updated.
