He served part time as a chaplain during WW2 (V517227) After the war he married Thelma Muriel Phillips (10/6/1920 - 13/7/2008) in 1946. They are both buried at the Mornington Cemetery. 2. Mr John Brown Hamlett was born in England. In 1951 he married Audrey Sommerville in in Scottsdale, Tasmania. Their first son, David was born in Tasmania in 1952. Packer and the Sunday Times in 1908 supported the formation of the League of Boy Scouts. In 1884 Mrs Aherne and Mrs Mrs Willward founded Girton and named it after the first residential college for women at Cambridge University in England. It was controlled by the Anglican Church. By 1992 the church could no longer afford to run the school and announce its imminent closure. A group of parents and citizens formed the "Friends of Girton" and with massive plans and fund raising they managed to reopened the school in 1993 as an independent school with no gap in classes.Bendigo Advertiser from Saturday March 28, 1964. The Sutton grange Congregational Church was built in 1865. Original services were held in the home of Mr James Grey who served the church for 50 years. The Bendigo Congregational church originally operated out of the Mechanics Institue building before moving temporarily to the Church of England school room. In May 1858, a meeting was held to establish a permanent building and tenders were called in September 1858. School Correspondence to BHS re Joseph & Mary Cadogen and school at Spring Gully - information supplied to writer (Mr Willliams, Schofield NSW) 1971 re the school.. Location: First record available dates from the beginning of 1856. It is the Denominational School Board record from the Rev. J. D. Brennan of the Church of England. The record reads: School was conducted by Joseph Cadogen in the church hall which was used as a Sunday School of the wesleyan Chapel about the beginning of 1856. Records of the 1857 show that the weatherboard building - with a canvas roof and wooden floor , cost £100(pounds). Head teacher was Mr. J. Cadogen who was assisted by Elizabeth Hunt, (January-March), Jane Greenehame (april-May, and Mary Cadogen. Newspaper cutting titled Long Gully school has a proud record. Paper dated Wednesday, February 14, 1990. Article was Community Focus with Maurie McDonald. The school was holding a reunion on Sunday, April 1. Article mentions some history of the school, distances from other schools and the meetings and a petition to get the school. Eventually a tender was accepted from Crawford Brothers, Bath Hotel, Sandhurst, for 2745 pounds, for the erection of the new building with an extra 50 pound for white brick facings. The new school was opened by the Minister of Public Instruction on January 15, 1879. There is a photo of the school in the article. There are also two pink photo copies of the article.
