The owner of this book was Edith Larwill. She was a violinist who played in the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra early in the 20th century. She married Henry Jacobs, a Warrnambool Real Estate Agent and in the 1940s and 50s she took an active part in the musical life of Warrnambool as a violinist and accompanying pianist. Her son Frank was also a businessman in Warrnambool. This book is of moderate interest as a text book used by Edith Jacobs. She was prominent in the 1940s and 50s in the Warrnambool musical scene. This is a hard cover book of 210 pages. It has a dark green cover with gold lettering on the spine. The book has a Preface, 24 chapters of text and an Appendix. The text includes many musical notations. The signature of the owner is handwritten in black ink. There is some damage to the bottom edge of the spine. The Dederang Race Club is a thoroughbred Race Club that manages a country racing venue in North East Victoria at the Dederang Recreation Reserve on the Kiewa Valley Highway. These races have been held annually since the mid 1850’s. The Dederang Picnic Race Club holds its one race meeting a year with the Dederang Cup in January. Thousands of dollars have been raised in that time for charity and the community through the effort of volunteers. The race club is made up of 100% volunteers and whilst not only organising the race meeting they voluntarily maintain the racecourse and facilities to a standard that allows local trainers to use the course throughout the year. Childers Cove is situated about 15 ks east of Warrnambool in the area known as Mepunga. It is named after the shipwreck of 'The Children.The documents relate to the running of the Childer's Cove Progress Association. There are a number of social activities including gymkhanas, racing meetings, making of roads and improving with planting trees There are many names which are still familiar with the area nearly 100 years later, including Wallace, McDowall, Burleigh, Murnane, Bonnett, Abraham Laidlaw Keogh Holloway and Palmer. Some of the meetings were held at the Mepunga South School with others held at Eckers Hotel Warrnambool and some at the race course. Fundraising events were held also from athletic meetings and district school children's races. This collection of papers is representative of many small communities around Australia where people came together and worked to improve their community facilities. The book was compiled by the Principal Peter Morris and is a collection of incidents, reminiscences and anecdotes arranged in chronological order to capture the character of the differing periods through which the school passed.
