'Hepburn Pool is a forgotten treasure which many visitors to Hepburn Springs would never be aware of. The owners of the Bellinzona Grange hotel explained that it was once the hotel pool and was built in the 1930's. You can find it behind this hotel, downhill at a street called The Pool Way. Steps and a ramp continue down to the pool itself and the secluded park around it. It was built into Spring Creek and became a competition pool for state swimming championships. A concrete weir separates a shallow children's pool from the main pool. You can still see the numbers of each lane painted on the walls at the deep end. There are plenty of seats and a barbeque area. A sign says this is a sacred aboriginal spot and you can certainly feel something magical about the place. I wouldn't suggest swimming in the former pool, it looks rather murky now.' Alberto Zelman's paid for local workers to construct the pool to their specifications so the visitors to local guest houses could swim on hot days. The Hepburn Pool was used for the Victorian Swimming Championships, with 6 stones marked at one end for each lane . It is 50 yards long, the length required for competitions. In 1969 the Daylesford Olympic Swimming Pool was constructed so this 'old swimming pool' was neglected, fortunately in 1993 local volunteers associated with the Savoia Hotel returned the pool to its former glory with the help of old photos and a lot of hard work. Two well known swimmers swam at the pool in the Victorian swimming Championships, they were Annette Kellerman and Frank Beaurepaire. The Pool was named Victoria's Favourite Built Place in 2004 as part of the Victorian Government's involvement in the International Year of the Built Environment. "MACARONI MANUFACTORY. On the pretty road to the Hepburn Mineral Springs, and not far from where the health-laden waters gush plentifully from the earth, is a two-storied brick it is that Messrs Lucini and Co, carry building, dedicated to the manufacture of macaroni, vermicelli, and the Italians' own especial delight— spaghetti. Here on operations, and Mr Lucini himself was good enough to show the writer around and explain the various proces ses of a manufacture which is little known to Australians. The finest wheat and the mineral waters fresh from the springs are utilised, and by means of a most ingenious machine, the hollow rods of macaroni are turned out in large numbers. Finally, they are packed in boxes and cases, and sent off to the prin cipal agent in Daylesford, Mr J. W. King, who in turn forwards them to all parts of the country. Mr Blackett, thv Govrnment Analyst, writes in most lau datory manner of the productions of the factory, and says that on testing them he found the various sam ples were of excellent quality, and quite equal to any of Italian manufacture. I have been interested in urban design and landscape since a child. My early fascination with maps corresponded to early mark making inspired by maps, topography, legends and aerial depictions. Dr Guscetti was born in Quinto, Switzerland on 24 June 1816. He died on 24 April 1871.
