A hand sickle is typically used for harvesting grain crops or cutting succulent forage chiefly for feeding livestock (either freshly cut or dried as hay). this one was used for cutting back bracken fern.Sickles were not used as often on farms after the mechanisation of harvesting. They were still used for cutting awkward shaped small plots, for opening a path for the tractors and for clearing bracken. Mt Calvin, the homestead of Jeanie and Willie Richardson can be clearly seen in the clearing above the men in the picture. The white roof of the Barber homestead is on the right of the picture. A landslide in 1934 destroyed the tree ferned area. John Lundy-Clarke grew up in the Kalorama/Mt Dandenong area and later in life (1972-74) began to write a comprehensive history of the area working from an original settlement map in an effort to cover all areas.Black and white photograph that is a copy of a Rose series postcard titled 'The Picturesque Road to Mt. ANZAC Commemorative Medallion is issued to all members of the Australian Defence Force and New Zealand Defence Force who served on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The medallion is also known as the Gallipoli Medallion.The personnel receiving the medallion served on the Gallipoli Peninsula from 25 April 1915 to the final date of evacuation in January 1916.The medallion is round the obverse depicts Simpson and his donkey carrying a wounded soldier to safety. It is bordered on the lower half by a laurel wreath above the word ANZAC. The reverse shows a map in relief of Australia and New Zealand superimposed by the Southern Cross. The lower half will be boardered by the New Zealand Fern Leaves. There is a crown at the top of the medallion. The medallion is cast in bronze.This medallion has the name W.E. The Michaeldene Trail is a level two loop that leads to the Taggerty River Lookout and may be undertaken as either as a Short (2.7 km) Loop, or a Long (4.3 km) Loop - 30 minutes to one hour and a half. The attractive bushland linking the Steavenson and Taggerty Rivers allows walkers and cyclists to step back in time to Marysville’s historic logging past. Sections of this mostly flat circuit follow old tramline alignments, which in places reveal the original timber sleepers on which the big logs were transported to the nearby sawmill.The Taggerty River Lookout offers views over the Taggerty River. The Trestle Bridge was built to span a small gully and provide access to the timber on Red Hill. Lady Talbot Drive is a 24 kilometer scenic rainforest car journey which passes a number of walks and waterfalls in the Yarra Ranges National Park. Foresters Hotel was built in 1868 by Mr. Joseph Cawley, Mr. and Mrs. Cawley were the occupants for 30 years. The site was previously occupied by a Billiards Room. In 1917 the building became Foresters Coffee Palace with new owner Mr. J.C. Crothers who purchased the building for 410 pounds and leased it to Mr. Robert Wennerbom. The next lease holder was Miss Fulton and in 1921 Mrs. R. Claringbold took over and called the building Foresters House. The building was sold in 1935 and demolished shortly after sale.
