Melbourne Bitter advertisement on the hotel. A number of soft top cars parked in the street. Photo probably from a postcard, has the words "T. Geelong. No. 8" along part of the bottom edge. Yields information about Moorabool Street Geelong, colour publicity photograph, summer clothing and the street scape during the early 1950's. Has a strong association with a commercial collection - Candy footwear.Colour print of a colour photograph held by the Candy Footwear collection (two slightly different prints) and a black and white version, of No. 31 in Moorabool Street, with the destination of BEACH, at the corner of Malop St, 1948. Has a number of people joining and leaving the tram, and walking across to the footpath. Also a number of bicycles in the photograph. People are wearing summer clothes. Printed on Agfa paper. In the background is the T&G building, Rockman's, Savoia Cafe, and Hitchcocks (?) Pty Ltd building. In an envelope that contained the photographs (now with the worksheet) is "pics and negatives for Geelong 31 / copy Candy Footwear framed illustration." Shows an accident between a Pengelly tram and an AEC solid tyre truck, possibly carrying sacks of coal. Reg Item 8321 shows an accident damaged tram of the same type - tram 22Provides information on the consequences of an accident between a larger heavy truck and a Pengelly tram on 9-2-1927.Mounted Black and White photograph mounted on a grey cardboard, embossed with lines and a decorative pattern of a Geelong Pengelly type tram in collision with an AEC solid tyre truck carrying bagged materials, possibly coal. Functional object - Tramcar component - Panel ex Geelong tramcar No. 2 with SECV logo
The penel was recovered by the restorer of MESCo/SECV Geelong tram No. 2 and provided information about the paint scheme and layout. The Geelong tramway system closed in March 1956, No. 2 making its last run in January 1956. The body was subsequently sold to Phil Shoppee, a farmer at Murradoc on the Bellarine Peninsula. The farmer had used the tram body as a feed store, with this part placed up against a water tank or similar. This prevented it from being painted over. The panel shows the methodology of securing it to the tram body and the location of the lining and the emblem. The SECV logo or emblem dates from the formation of the SECV in 1921. The panel dates from the 1950s, possibly from a repaint after the side entry gates on the car were replaced by hinged doors in the mid-1950s. Yields information about the disposition of Geelong trams following closure and those shipped to Ballarat or Bendigo along with dates.Handwritten letter from Bob Lilburn of West Essendon dated 7-2-1971 to Charles Craig forwarding him information of Geelong SEC bogie cars and Scrapped Geelong cars. Notes that his photo of Geelong 40 being loaded at the Geelong depot on 27-3-1956 was received in Ballarat the following day and that Pengelly 23 was the "workhorse" around the depot after closure. List of scrapped cars gives location as known by Bob at the time. The Geelong bogie car list gives the Melbourne number, Geelong number, dated received at Geelong, Transferred to (Ballarat or Bendigo), the number in that City, date received and any remarks. Photo shows the Tramcar allocation board - in the Geelong depot. Shows the four bogie cars in operation or available on the day the photograph was taken. Shows that some of the Meadowbank-built trams and bogie trams had already left the depot. One of a set of photos was taken between 15/2/1956 and 3/3/1956 when services operated only between Belmont and North before the final closure of the Belmont route on 25/31956 and that bogie tram 31 is not shown on the board, having gone to Ballarat on 15/2/1956 - see item 5554. Stages in the construction of one of the two Birney Safety Cars, imported from the J G Brill Company of Philadelphia in kit form in 1924, and assembled in the area formerly occupied by the buses. In the background of Item 9237 is the trailer purchased from the North Melbourne Electric Tramway Company in 1924. Its number in the order in which Geelong cars were acquired was 13 (the Birneys were nos. 14 and 15) and it was eventually converted to a track scrubber car in 1926. It never carried the number 13 but was advertised for sale as such at the closure of the tramways in 1956.
