Williamstown Military competitions physical training awarded to A Coy 64th Battalion the winning team Aug 4th 1917Silver cup enscribed with decorative flowers and leaves. The cup has been sebarated from its base, a clean break through the stem. The top of the stem has some small beading and slopes away gently toward the break. The base of the cup, again has beeding and the base flairs away from the stem. The tope of the base is decorated with roughly engraved flames . Enlargement of photograph taken by Norman Rowse in 1917 that shows the first home of Isaac Jeeves built at the Running (Olinda) Creek. The small building on the right behind the pony and the fowls was Isaac’s first substantial home and was occupied in 1858 he having lived in camp on the creek as a miner since 1855. The tall building on left was barn built in the sixties and the large roof behind was the five roomed house with a tree fern floor. This last building was of blackwood entirely above the floor and was built in the early sixties. 1917 was the year in which the new Mission at 717 Flinders St extension was being built but did not open until after Michaelmas that year. The old Mission opened in 1907 on the Australian Wharf was obviously still in operation. Proposed remodelling of the wharf necessitating removal of the Mission perhaps deferred due to the Great War.This detailed poster intended for visiting crews in 1917 provides some insight into the fact of continued access to the old Mission required circa 1914 by the Port Authority to be vacated. As an ephemeral document it has survived unusually well.A small poster or flyer with blue printed text and featuring the Missions to Seamen, Melbourne flag with logo. Above them is a sign "I'm a set of wheels for a lucky boy". Appears to be gifts at a Christmas party for Junior Legatees. For many years Melbourne Legacy held Christmas parties for junior legatees - the children of deceased servicemen, often hosted by the Governor at Government House. It came from a Legacy envelope marked P7, 1966. It was an early attempt at building an archive.
