4NBH - Excursion Car (28) NBH SECOND-CLASS EXCURSION CAR. The H was recognising their use for "Holiday" traffic. 15 of these cars were built in 1919 and numbered 1-15. Two more were built in 1981, and numbered 16 & 17. Two extended versions for wheelchair passengers were built in 1981 & 1983. These were numbered 51 & 52 - a separate number series due to the different type of vehicle. Six, numbered 18-23, were built in 1997-98. These had steel frames, padded seats, and a wide "window sill". At first glance they look the same as the previous NBHs. There are other minor construction differences due to the use of steel framing. 18NBH entered traffic 19/4/1997; 19NBH on 5/12/1997; 20NBH on 19/12/1997, the others added in 1998. 11NBHC Passenger Carriage - Excursion Car and Guard's Van Excursion Car 11 NBH which has been converted by the addition of a Guard's Van compartment by Puffing Billy Railway and re classed & numbered 11 NBHC The NBHC is a conversion from the standard NBH. This was a temporary, but long term, conversion to overcome lack of suitable guard's vans on the Puffing Billy railway. One end of a standard NBH had windows and a hand brake fitted. A padded seat replaced the standard back to back seating, and a partition separated the guard from the passenger compartment. Four books of stubs. Originally the books had 20 right to occupy residence area forms. The stubs record the date of issue, the replacing right No., the fee paid, the receipt no. and a signature. only one of the books has the original form attached, two of the books have handwritten notes attached. One has a typewritten letter from a Mr. L. Gibney of the department of Crown lands and survey dated 24th July 1972 addressed to the district land officer, Bendigo. In the letter Mr. Gibney tells the officer in Bendigo that a pad containing 20 unnumbered residence area right forms D. Gertrude Perry was born in California Gully in 1917. Her singing skills were recognized at an early age. She later sang with local choirs and sang on radio. She was involved with the Bendigo Operatic Society for many years. Gertrude began her working life in sales. After studying book keeping she worked at the Bendigo Ordnance Factory during WW2 and then worked for local solicitors and accountants. Gertrude was involved with many community and sporting organizations.Gertrude Perry Collection - handwritten note from Pat Slattery to "Gertie" referring to the reunion of the Bendigo Easter Fair Miss Popular Girls on 7th April 1991. The letter refers to two photos the writer has attached but which are not included in the folder. Lined paper has been torn from a writing pad. Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The images held within the National Vietnam Veterans Museum make up the Gibbons Collection. A black and white photograph of SAS patrol onboard a 9 Sqn Iroquois helicopter prior to being flown out to a landing pad in the jungle. The relationship developed between No. 9 Squadron and the SAS had a very close, both organisations having a deep respect and admiration for the other.
