Printed as a specific accounting Journal by the SECV for use in its offices to record the use of the Franking Machine or Postage Machine. The machine would be preloaded with a value at the post office after a cheque for 25 pounds was presented and then used to send out accounts, and letters from the mail room. Used when all power invoices were mailed to customers. Also records the use of stamps. Has the initials of the person who would audit or check the monthly entries. Used in the days when stamps were considered a valuable commodity and to stop pilfering. See item 5639 for a franked envelope sent from the SECV's Ballarat office to Wal Jack.Demonstrates record keeping of a franking machine record used in the SECV Ballarat office during the late 1930s and early 1940s.Printed as an accounting journal with heavy card covers, approx 50 pages, ruled in red and blue ink, completed in black ink. The journal is titled "Tranking Machine Record" in a gold block. Has marbled endpapers, sewn sections, and fawn colour cotton sheet cover with leather edge binding and corners with a decorative finish. Coloured postcard of the view from Little Collins St looking north along Elizabeth St. Has a northbound cable tram and several horse-drawn wagons in the view. In the view are the GPO, Newing's Artists materials, Royal Arcade, and Turner's bicycles. The letter is dated 8/12 from an Eck in Toorak addressed to Doris Ettelson in Ballarat. These stamps were issued by Australia Post in 1984 to commemorate the sport of skiing in Australia. This was the year of the Winter Olympics held in Sarajevo. The 1984 Australian Winter Olympics team at Sarajevo consisted of 10 athletes. They were;- Steven Lee competing in the Downhill and Giant Slalom Alistair Guss in the Downhill Marilla Guss in the Downhill and Giant Slalom Andrew Paul in the Biathlon over both 10 kilometres and 20 kilometres David Hislop in the 15, 30 and 50 kilometres X-Country events Chris Allen in the 15, 30 and 50 kilometres X-Country event Cameron Medhurst in Figure Skating Vicki Holland in Figure Skating Mike Richmond in the 500 metres, 1,000 metres and 1,500 metres speed skating Colin Coates in the 1,500 metres, 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres speed skating Colin Coates was the flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony in recognition of the Sarajevo Winter Olympics being his 5th Winter Olympics team. He went on to compete in his final Olympic Team at Calgary, Canada in 1988. The inscription in the book indicates that it once belonged to Edwin J Dale, who may have received it May 13th 1901, the date on the inscription. The album was made in Germany and has English, German, French and Spanish language on the fly page. It has 2000 pockets for holding stamps and is illustrated. The printer, Spottiswoode and Co., was established in 1738 by William Strahan, with premises in New Street Square, London. The growing firm advertised as Printers, Lithographers, Stationers, Electrotypers, Publishers, and Booksellers and by 1914 there were 1,000 employees.The stamp album is of Victorian vintage and shows that at the end of the 19th century people collected stamps. An early colour tinted photograph of the Upper Cumberland Falls near Cambarville in Victoria. These falls are located on the Marysville-Wood's Point Road. Cambarville is notable for its giant mountain ash (Eucalyptus regnans) trees within the Cumberland Memorial Scenic Reserve, and relics from former sawmills and gold mining. The Big Culvert is located nearby on the Marysville - Woods Point Road, which was historically part of the Yarra Track. Cambarville was established as a timber mill town in the 1940s. Timber mill owners A Cameron and FJ Barton named Cambarville. They established the mill to salvage timber from trees destroyed in the 1939 bushfires. Cambarville was impacted by the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires and any remaining structures were destroyed.POST CARD This space may be used for Correspondence.
