The community hall, originally a shearing shed, was donated to the RSL in the 1950's. Moved from Bill Lewers property 'Hoyles Creek' to Clyde St, Linton. When the RSL closed in 1982 the hall was bought by Grenville Shire council for use as a community hall. The hall was demolished in December 1996 when the Multi Purpose Hall at Linton Rec. The ship Speke, which was wrecked in 1906 near Kitty Miller Bay, was named after the town Speke in Liverpool, where Speke Hall is located. It was completed, except for some minor additions, for Edward Norris by 1606. The predominant architectural message of Speke is the decorative potential of wood. The exterior, with its high proportion of timber to infill, is a riot of geometrical patterning, while many of the Tudor interiors are filled with carved and embellished panelling – including a genealogical overmantel from c.1560 – some probably imported from the Low Countries, where the Norrises had trading connections. This building once contained the municipal offices and a public Town Hall for the City of Sunshine. The building was demolished and on the site the R.T. Pollard Gardens were established. The Gardens are shown in the second photograph.Although the council built new municipal offices in Alexandra Ave, a Town Hall for public use was never rebuilt. The council considered that there were other halls available, such as the Mariana Hall or school halls, which could be hired for public or council functions. This picture of the Sunshine Town Hall is a copy made from an unknown printed article. The RSL Hall was in Clyde Street, Linton, where the Telstra building now stands. The hall was demolished in the 1990s after the opening of the new recreation reserve hall.Small black and white photograph shows a group of hatless men standing to attention at left and a group of mostly children and women seated and standing to right.
