The Ballarat School of Mines had a 'Model Mine' that was used to teach students. Practical work was undertaken for a fee, supervised by laboratory superintendents. Copies of assays undertaken are compiled together in this book. Leatherbound ledger with transfer copies assay reports from the Ballarat School of Mines. Those seeking assaying work from the Ballarat School of Mines are listed in alphabetical order in the front of the ledger. The ledger contains 543 pages. .2) Foolscap assay report on foolscap Ballarat School of Mines letterhead, and signed by Alfred Mica Smith, Superintendent of Laboratories. The report was on eight samples of Quartz submitted by R.C. Morgan, Scotts, Hotel, Melbourne .3) Assay report on Ballarat School of Mines letterhead, dated 14 August 1985, and signed by Andrew Berry, Registrar. The assay was supervised by Professor Alfred Mica Smith, and undertaken for James Burke, Broken Hill, New South Wales. .4) Assay report on Ballarat School of Mines letterhead, dated 18 August 1988, and signed by Alfred Mica Smith, Superintendent of Laboratories. The assay was undertaken on samples of Limonite submitted by James Burke and others, Broken Hill, New South Wales. The report includes information the the Ballarat School of Mines museum and the search for geological specimens from all Australian colonies for the collection. .5) A 'rough' assay report on samples of stone submitted by H. These photographs are from a collection owned by Edith Emma Watson and passed down to the donor, her granddaughter. The Yung family were from Happy Valley near Linton. Edith's mother was Clara Emma Yung b Smith, also from Happy Valley. Edward Lancelot (Lance), Alfred Ernest (Alf) and Ernest Herbert (Ern) Yung were the sons of George Edgar Godlip Yung and Clara Emma Yung (b Smith). They were the brothers of Edith Emma Watson and Maude Holmes. A faded blue document titled "Bendigo Teachers' College Graduation Ceremony 1959". Also on the front page is a list of the staff working at the college. On the inside page is the "Significance of the Ceremony" and "Order of Ceremony". The welcome to visitors was given by Mr. F. M. Courtis and the 'Graduation Book' was presented to Mr. A. L. Harris by Miss J. C. Burnett. Mr. C. L. Barker made the final call of the 1959 roll. Congratulations were offered by Cr. H. W. Snell J.P., Cr. P.V. Bowles the President of Strathfieldsaye Shire and Mr. E. P. Seymour, Head Teacher of Violet Street State School. The Occasional Address was presented by Mr. J. G. Greening Chief Inspector of Primary Schools. The following page contains a list of the "Students of 1958-59". The back page has the "Principal's Charge". Dr Agnes Donaldson practised as a GP at 'Luxmee' in Windsor Crescent, Surrey Hills along with her sister, Dr Roberta Donaldson. The practice was originally in Blackburn Street commencing in the early 1920s. It moved to 'Luxmee' where Dr Navroji (Neville) Gandevia had previously practised. Their father had been a doctor at Linton, near Skipton and their brother was a doctor in Skipton. A class photo of a group of young legatees at a gymnastics class in Kew. There are 15 boys, of various ages, in gymnastics gear, and 4 men who are instructors and Legacy members. The caption says 'This photo was taken during school holidays, hence the small attendance. Front: Eddie Robertson, Sitting: Lohn LInton, Bob Bateson, Robin Broderick, Michael Johnson, Tom Olsen, Graeme Murray, Douglas Govey. Centre: Mr Tom Mann (instructor) Legatee HJ Martin, Legatee A R Beattie, Mr J Costello (Instructor). Back: John Barker, Kerry Wisdom, Garry Thomson, Gerald Brown, Rod MacKinnon, John Shaw, Graeme Withers. Legacy clubs ran classes for junior legatees for many years. It was part of providing for the children of their deceased comrades. The skills they learned were show cased in an annual demonstration usually at the Melbourne Town Hall.
