Circa WW2 1940 - 1945. Used for RAAF Trainee pilots for Wirraway and Tiger Moth training. This helmet belonged to Francis Robertson, trainee RAAF Pilot who crashed his aircraft into Nurse Carter's residence at Chiltern (May 30th, 1943) whilst on a training flight from Advanced Training Squadron Deniliquin NSW. The Helmet is associated with Francis Robertson WW2 RAAF Pilot, trained at Number 7 Flying School Deniliquin NSW. Khaki Canvas and metal helmet used in WW2 circa 1943 for trainee pilots of Wirrway's and Tiger moths. Made of sturdy heavy duty canvas with some metal underlay, leather and sheepskin straps, brass attachment buckles. Sgt S.T. Wood was an RAAF Fitter/Armourer with overseas service. he served for 4 years and 3 months and was demobilised on 3 December 1945 This is the standard set of medals for a member of the Defence Forces in WWII with service in the islands to our north.Set of five service medals, with miniatures, in wooden cigar box, with leaflet on medal entitlements and Interim Discharge Certificate for 42333 Sgt S. Wood, RAAF. Consists of 1939-1945 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal War Medal 1939-45, Australian Service Medal 1939-45. Stars are inscribed 42333 S.T.Wood on rear. The medals have the same inscription on the lower outside rim. Box has "S.T.Wood" and some other illegible characters scratched into wood on upper outside surface.

The headstamp on these cartridges indicates they were manufactured in 1942 at the St Louis Ordnance Plant in Missouri USA. They were souvenired and engraved by Australian servicemen in New Guinea during WW2. All five cartridges are engraved with RAAF and Dutch New Guinea with one having additional engraving of Hollandia, Nadzab and Merauke. They belonged to 285492 Maurice Gerard HENDERSON born 21/9/1899 who enlisted at the age of 40 and served with the RAAF during WW2. He was deployed on 26/5/1944 with 113 FCU to Merauke in New Guinea.No. 13 Fighter Sector Headquarters was formed at Garbutt airfield on 16 Apr 1943. They embarked from Cairns, Queensland on 27 Jun 1943 and disembarked at Merauke on 2 Jul 1943. The Unit was renamed as No.113 Fighter Control Unit (113 FCU) on 7 Mar 1944. They moved to Townsville on 25 Feb 1945.
