This certificate was issued to register William Todd as the owner of a residence area at Allotment 28, Section 4, Linton. This land was held under Miner's Right No. 93197. The certificate was issued at Smythesdale on December 2nd by John Lynch, Mining Registrar. Miner's Right No. 93917, 18 September 1886. Formally situated on the first floor of the Ballarat goal building. Currently situated at the Historic Precinct, Brooke Street, Smythesdale. In 2005 Mr Butler approached the Woady Yaloak Historical Society asking if we would like to become the new caretakers of the Gallows because of our historical connection. Four of the first five men executed on the gallows were from the Woady Yaloak area. Stone mileposts dating from the 1870s are found on the Glenelg Highway. Stone and iron mileposts are now a rarity, and have remanining markers have become a tourist attaction in many smaller towns with remnant markers. The stone mileposts on the Glenelg Highway are listed on the Victorian Heritage Reigister as being significant to the State of Victoria. Their primary purpose is to inform the travelling public of distances and directions to various destinations.
