Purchased from Baptist Community Care Shop in Station Street , Mitcham1980s Wedding dress with vee neckline, bodice coming to a point over waistline. Satin bodice with lace motives re-embroidered with pearl and sequins. Tulle yoke and sleeves with embroidered pattern lace motives and sleeve edge also re-embroidered. Satin bow on shoulders with pearl and sequins embroidering. Back of bodice to point over waistline, buttons down back - eleven self covered buttons over zip fasteners. Back waist finished with large bow at waist. Circular skirt gathered at bodice. Three panels inserted in centre front to 67cm high and 60cm wide. Attached underskirt. Train gathered to back waistline, two widths of material with embroidered lace inserts around hemline. Nine arrangements of embroidered lace flowers inserts over the train coming out of satin petal shaped pouches gathered at top to give an impression of a vase.costume, female ceremonial

This knitted and crocheted three piece dress was made by Jean Gorsuch in 1960. The wool was purchased from the Treasure House, a wool, toys and childrens clothes shop in Station Street, Mitcham. This was a very fashionable at that time as knitted and crocheted garments were making a comeback. O'Callaghan's hotel was one of three 'hotels' which operated in Mitcham in the late 19th century. Suited on the corner of Station St and Whitehorse Road it was run by Irish widow, Mary Jane O'Callaghan. In 1914, Frederick C Drake opened Mitcham's first estate agency in a red brick office building on the corner of Station Street and Colombo Street, Mitcham.. In 1926 Norman Armstrong took over the business but retained the original name. This image was one of a series taken by Harold Millane in the late 1940's. They were printed onto post cards. Mary Millane, Harold's wife, printed captions on each negative with Indian ink. The series includes a variety of views of Mitcham, Vermont, Nunawading, Park Orchards and Doncaster East.
