This photograph is a copy obtained from State Library of Victoria. The photograph is of Stawell Shire Hall. Two persons can be seen in the foreground. The two story brick building beside the Stawell Shire Hall was once the Literary Institute. The Stawell Shire Hall building has been added to over the years. Ronald Campbell, the Shires second president laid the foundation stone on 28th April. 1866. The contractors were Hutchings and Delbridge. The photograph shows the first hall and office. The building contained simple 18 feet square rooms, with an entrance hall separating them, the facade was almost as it is now. Literary Institute at Pleasant Creek, Stawell West. Built in 1868 and classified as part of a group by National Trust buildings. Diamond House Stawell Built by John HearneThis is a Photograph of the Diamond House, corner of Seaby and Princes Streets. It's almost as old as Stawell. Built by Mr John Hearne. Brown and White stones that were gathered from Church Hill were cut and carefully fitted to from Diamonds.Black and White Photograph of a very unusual home built in a pattern of Diamonds, in shades of stones. 7 different photos, Various years (1 Coloured)The Diamond House-Built of quartz and sandstone. the Diamond House, so called from its peculiar construction, is situate in Seaby Street, Stawell. and was built over 30 years ago by Mr. Hearne. The quartz and sandstones used in its construction were carted by him from Church Hill, which is just across the street. Screws were used instead of nails. It was when built intended for a wine shop and is now used as a private residence. stawell

Log Cabin built by Mr. J. Wharrie c 1930’s. Originally the Log cabin had a bark roof. The roof was replaced with iron. The home is located in Darlington Road Stawell. The Wharrie family lived in the cabin for many years during the 1940's and owned a doll factory. Black & white photograph depicting a home built of logs with a lattice porch way, stone chimney's and iron roof. On the iron roof is a weather vane decorated on top by a carriage and 2 horses. The memorial was erected in c 1936 by the public to the pioneers of Deep Lead District. The memorial was to commemorate the early pioneers of Deep Lead. The bronze tablet depicts two miners at work, one operating the cradle while the other using the shovel. Behind the two men and partly framing the design, is the windlass set in a fork of a tree. On each side of the main tablature are two figures of goats, one a "Billy goat" the other a "nanny goat". The bronze sculpture is set on a pedestal of Grampian freestone, which is placed on the two steps of granite. The whole memorial is surrounded by an ornate stone fence. The bronze sculpture work was executed by Mr. S. J. Hammond of Melbourne while the stone work was carved and erected by Mr. G. Robson, of Stawell. The shire engineer Mr. C.W.C. Salvation Army Memorial Plaque & Stone. The plaque is located in Sloane's Street Stawell near the library.Colour photograph of a rectangular stone with a plaque on a concrete base. “Overdale” Holden Homestead Concongella. James Holden settled on "Overdale" in the late 1860's. Diamond House Stawell. This unique house was built by John Hearne between 1866-1868 using white quartz stone gathered on Church Hill opposite. Mr. Hearne showed considerable skill and patience in construction as the stones had to be carefully cut & fitted into uniformity which has lasted 130 years. Its is said not a nail was used. The Rotunda near Victoria St was restored to its former glory by members of Stawell Lions Club. A state wide competition for the design of the Rotunda was run in c 1914 and Mr. R.C. (Robert) Henderson of Stawell won the competition and received a Medal as his prize on 19th Nov. c 1914. Cato Park Plaque. The information on the plaque states the name change from Victoria Reserve to Cato Park in 1930. Victoria Reserve was gazette in c 1914 then had a name change in 1930 to Cato park. The Park renamed after Frederick J. Cato in contribution to his generosity to the Stawell community.
