Slide - 35mm slide/s, mid to late 1960's
Agfa plastic mount (blue base, white cover) of a photograph of No. 43 at corner of Sturt St and Lydiard St, on the curved track into Lydiard St. North with both poles down, front truck derailed. A policeman is walking at the back of the tram - controlling traffic. The road surface is wet. Has the Ballarat Post Office in the background. Tram has the destination of Lydiard St. North. Photo taken mid to late 1960's. Tramcar has a SEC "Everything's under control in my all electric kitchen" roof advertisement. The slide could be a copy slide, given the nature of the colour and the additional number WP410. Photographer could be Bill Pearce (WP). Slide rescanned at 3200 dpi 25-10-2020, jpg replaced, tiff file retained. Yields information about the instructions that Ballarat Tramways traffic inspectors received in carrying out their duties and how to monitor the work of the tram crews etc.Twenty duplicated quarto pages or folios titled "General Instructions - Tramway Traffic Inspectors", bound within a manila folder. Dated March 1951 and has Manual No. 1 on each sheet. On bottom edge has "GOS6-55", indicating that it may have been printed in June 1955. Two steel clips used to bind sheets into folder. Set of four documents: - letter from W R Dann Traffic Manager of the Brisbane City Council Transport Department to Les Denmead, Tramway Supertindent Ballarat dated 6/2/1956, enclosing two prints of Brisbane Tramway Drop Centre bogie trams, long wheelbase reversed Maximum Traction truck, and Accident Report Form No. 1 of 8/54. The photograph has recorded rail smash which occurred at Sunbury on 17th April 1919 when a stock train crashed into a goods train. It caused a lot of damage to the rolling stock and blocked rail traffic on the Bendigo and Maryborough lines. The driver and the firemen of the stock train were injured.This accident is only one of a number which have happened on the Sunbury Bendigo rail track over the years.A black and white photograph with a white border in postcard format of a rail accident where some of the carriages are on their side and workman are in the railway yard inspecting the damage.sunbury, rail accidents -

Notebook - 100 ruled blue line pages centre stapled with card cover used by Inspector Harold De Dohse to record his observations and instructions to crews regarding uniforms, behaviour, operations, accidents and other offences. Has been ruled into 8 vertical columns to record "date, time, route, locality, conductor or driver, number, nature of Offence and action taken" Commences 1/12/1956 through to 3/5/1959. Has various date stamps in the book - the purpose may have to be to show that they have been recorded by the Board clerical traffic staff. Would have been compiled from individual depot reports. The rear of the sheet has been used to prepare a report by K L Mackenzie on applicants for the Compressed Gas Plant attendant at Clifton Hill depot. The Compressed Gas plant was part of the equipment installed to provide gas for the buses during the early stage of the Second World War.
