A Legacy widow, Beryl Billing, with two school girls from Siena College and a lot of loose letters. Six school girls came to Legacy house to meet the weekly gathering of the stamp ladies. They had chosen Legacy as a cause they wanted to help and decided to collect stamps, they donated over 5,000 stamps. The widows clubs have sorted used stamps and sold to a stamp dealer for many years to the present day. It raises funds and provides a purpose for gathering together. Beryl Billings was the co-ordinator of the stamp sorting for many years. Photo of two residents of Holmbush, who appear to be greeting or farewelling a guest in a fur coat. The names are not known but was with other photos of the girls and the guest at Holmbush, see items 02338 and 02339. From a photo album which contains photos of Holmbush and some of the excursions and events that happened there, appears to have been put together in the 1940s. Including trips to the zoo and picnics. Holmbush at 1267 Burke road, was one of the properties that Legacy used for Junior Legatees. It was purchased 1942. The soldier in the photo is Charles Alfred KEDGE No.38512. Born in Bendigo, he enlisted on 8.11.16 aged 21 in the FIELD ARTILLERY BRIGADE Reinforcement 32. Embarked for England 26.11.17, embarked for France 17.7.18, KIA 16.8.18 at Tincourt, France. The photo was most likely taken in Croydon, South London at the home of Stephen Tully, the elder man sitting in the photo. Betty Tully is in front of him, Eileen in the white dress. The lady in the black dress is Annie Parker. The photo was taken prior to Kedge embarking for France. Refer to Ct. Colour slide of girls enjoying rocking playground equipment at Government House. Melbourne Legacy held an annual Christmas Party for Junior Legatees and Widows at Government House for many years. The year is unknown but likely to be during the 1950s. A group of slides in glass mounts with green tape are probably from a couple of consecutive years. They will be catalogued separately. Was with many other slides taken in the 1950s and 1960s. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. Federal Woollen Mills float for the 1938 Gala Day in Geelong. For over 20 years Geelong held a Gala Day to raise money for the Hospital. Many organisations created floats and paraded them in Geelong. 'Fairyland' at 57 Malmsbury Street, Kew - the home and garden of Jim and Grace Tabulo - was a major local, state and international tourist attraction from the 1940s to the mid 1960s. The Kew Historical Society's collection contains original photographs, visitor books and items that were once displayed in the house by the Tabulos. Grace Tabulo died in 1973 and is buried with her husband Jim in the Boroondara General Cemetery (PRES B 1973). Following her death at the age of 88, the house was sold and its contents distributed. The cottage is now a private residence. The 'Fairyland' collection is of local and statewide significance, as a varied and comprehensive record of this major Melbourne tourist attraction. The local Bulla CFA were invited to come to the Bulla Primary School and talk to the children about the importance of their task in the area. Jack McKenzie is showing the little girl how to hold the fire hose. Jack McKenzie was a local Bulla resident and a CFA volunteer for many years.
