H.J. Struth was a Warrnambool butcher with a business in Timor Street. The Struth family commenced a butcher's shop in WarrnamboolWarrnambool in 1914 and H.J. Struth was the proprietor of the shop until 1956.. It is presumed he is a descendant of Alexander Struth,the Woodford miller and also of Anthony Struth who came to the district in 1843 and also related to Anthony Struth who had a chemist shop in Liebig Street in partnership with Ian Soulsby in the 1980s and the 1990s.This label is of of interest as a memento of the Struth family butchers in the early 20th century.Cream coloured paper label with dark blue text and a decorative border. Lloyd family butchers established on the corner of Elgar & Whitehorse Roads (within the Surrey Hills postal area). Emma Atkinson and her husband has a fruit & vegetable business next door. Edward Lloyd also had a butcher shop at 112 Union Road from 1920-1950. Many Union Road businesses decorated carts and delivery vehicles for the Empire Day parades which drew crowds from all over Melbourne. Lloyd Brothers butchers were located on the NW corner Whitehorse Road and Elgar Roads; previously the premises of Edward Tacey, butcher, established in 1888. There was an abattoir adjoining the premises. In 1901 the Box Hill Reporter contained a protest regarding the proposed extension of the abattoir. In 1907 it was claimed that the development of land in Mont Albert was hindered by the smells and operations of the abattoir.
