This is an invitation to the Eight Hundredth Dinner of The Melbourne Beefsteak Club at University House, University of Melbourne on Friday 29 September 1967. The Worthy Master is Sir Clive Fitts. The invitation lists the courses and wine served, and the list of invited guests.

The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment. The queen was resident at Government House Melbourne for nine days and during the time guard duties were shared by 1st Battalion Royal Australian Regiment, 3rd Division Royal Australian Artillery, 5th Infantry Battalion (Victorian Scottish), 6th Infantry Battalion (Royal Melbourne Regiment), 4th/19th Prince of Wales's Light Horse, 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles, 2nd Medium Regiment, 22nd Field Regiment and Melbourne University Rifles. Rare document relating to guard duty at Government House Melbourne mounted by a unit of the Citizen Military Forces from Victoria during a royal visit .Photocopy of a three page report prepared for period 1/2 March 1954 when 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regiment provided the guard at Government House Melbourne during the visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The report lists the officer, 4 non commissioned officers and 20 other ranks comprising the guard together with timings and locations of the sentry posts. A list of servicemen that were submitted for inclusion on the Junior Legacy Honour Roll. However the document mentions this list is of those 'for whom there was no "master card" or concerning whose entitlement to entry on the Roll there is some doubt'. There is a column for 'Here enter any known details'. The final Honour Roll lists junior legatees that served overseas in the armed forces, initially World War Two, and displayed in cabinets in Legacy House. The purple type implies it was made with a renostat form of printing so was a copy of the original document. The final page has a note to return the form to Junior Legacy. Application by Mr and Mrs R O Goldsmith of Elwood for the position of Manager of the Legacy Club Hostel. It lists his war service with 1st A.I.F. 24th Battalion. And later work as an architect and instructor of wood work. Mrs J Goldsmith was a trained nurse and served with Queen Alexandra's Military Nursing Service in WWI. Many items had to be purchased or supplied when setting up the first Legacy hostel, and these documents record the variety of equipment needed for such a project. Melbourne Legacy ran three residences: Blamey House (purchased 1947) , Stanhope (purchased 1945) and Harelands (purchased 1950), to take care of children whose fathers were servicemen, and who may have been left orphans, or whose mother may have been unable to care for them herself. Harelands accommodated boys and girls under the age of 14, Blamey House looked after boys over 14, and Stanhope looked after girls over 14. The children were cared for until they were old enough to become independent.As well as detailing the items themselves, the lists identify Myers as a major supplier. This followed a question from Mr. S. Cathie to Mr Hamer as Minister for State Development Decentralization and Tourism.
