A brochure printed to capture an address given to the Legacy Club, Melbourne by Dr C H Fitts in 1942. The content appears to be about the term 'legacy'. The fact it was printed means it must have been significant to the Legatees. The notation H28 in red pen shows that it was part of the archive project that was trying to capture the history of Legacy. A record of the speech given to Legatees in 1942 and was significant enough to be printed. Speakers at Legacy luncheons were from very different walks of life and the subjects spoken on were many and varied.White paper brochure with black type, folded into a 8 page booklet of an address by Dr Fitts.Handwritten H28 in red pen, and 'From K J Doolan, 55 Ardie Rd East Malvern' in blue fountain pen.history, speech, speakers -

Painting - PAINTING, CENOTAPH FRAMED, 1988
Bendigo's Cenotaph by Dacre Smyth 1988. Bendigo's War Memorial in the city centre is a half size replica of the famous Cenotaph in London. Some 4-1/2 metres high, the Bendigo RSL President described it as the best country Memorial in Australia during its rededication just before ANZAC Day 1988 following its extensive refurbishment. It had first been dedicated in June 1957 and it is normally flood lit at night. It is not known for sure when the painting was donated to the Bendigo RSL but it was hanging in the Foyer years before the Soldiers Memorial Institute became a Museum in 1998. Frame - Light timber, gold trim, no glass. Original coloured oil painting of the Cenotaph, Bendigo in foreground with Charing Cross buildings & fountain in the background. Label black print on gold bottom centre: "Bendigo's Cenotaph" Rear of painting hand written in black felt pen & black ink: "History of the Cenotaph by Dacre Smyth, 1988" cenotaph, bendigo, painting, brsl, smirsl -

Mortlake and District Historical Society
Montgomery Memorial Fountain, Photograph
A memorial fountain was original originally sited at close to the gates of the Mortake State School and was unveiled by the citizens of Mortlake to perpetuate the memory of the late Cr Thomas Montgomery. The fountain was to be erected before the death of Cr Montgomery but as he died before this happened it became a memorial. Made of bluestone and Apollo Bay and Ceres stone it was designed by Messrs Wilcox Bros of Geelong. Cr Dennis as President of the Mortlake Shire Council was the first to turn on the water and take a drink from the fountain which was later removed to the front wall of the Mortlake Swimming Baths and then just recently to the east wall of the newly constructed bluestone toilets in Market Square.Thomas Montgomery served on the Mortlake Shire Council for thirty eight years, and was a local businessman who owned the general store known as Thos Montgomery as well as being a partner in a similar store in Terang known as Montgomery and Bradshaw.AD 1922 ERECTED BY THE CITIZENS OF MORTLAKE TO PERPETUATE THE MEMORY OF THOMAS MONTGOMERYthomas montgomery memorial fountains -
